*Chanel and Kaylie walking down Wilson Drive*
Wilson Drive is kind of like Times Square in Flatbush. Chanel and Kaylie will do anything to avoid home so they decided they would take a walk before heading there. New Yorkers come here for business, entertainment and anything in between. With music playing, couples on dates, business men and women on meetings, it's just a chill space to get some thinking time in. Kaylie comes here to get her thoughts off through her photography, she just was given a new high quality camera from Ms. Sherral-her mentor. Chanel usually comes here just to meet guys.
*K snapping pictures of random people and random things*
Chanel: Quit taking pictures of everything and everybody, it's rude. How do you know if someone wants you taking pictures of them?
Kaylie: I'm sure they wouldn't mind. If someone wanted to take pictures of me, I'd be flattered.
*snaps off guard picture of Chanel*
"Well, I'm not.. so no more pictures of me," says Chanel, in a joking way.
*snaps another picture of Chanel while she's looking away*
*Chanel looks at K, implying that she really doesn't wants her picture taken*
"Okay, okay. Well then take some pictures of me," says Kaylie.
"You know I don't know how to work this thing. Too many buttons. Just give me your phone, I definitely know how to work one of those," she counters.
"All you do is press the silver button at the top, press the up arrow to zoom in, down arrow to zoom out and that little button on the side to focus.. Just snap away, there should be at least one good one I can post on my tumblr," says K.
Kaylie then walks in front of Chanel, posing with, around and beside things and people. Sometimes looking away, sometimes making an actual pose. Silly faces, straight faces, sad faces; You can find all of her moods in her pictures. Though she's just having fun with it, she really possesses the potential to go into professional photography.
Other than Mary and booze, K really loves this photography stuff. It's like another getaway for her. M s. Sherral was really nice to give this high tech camera to her. Maybe every mentor isn't just there for the money, some actually do care about the growth of the person. It'd be really nice if Kaylie could go to one of those big, art like schools that kids like her and Chanel dream about and those who are offered it take the opportunity for granted. She'd love that and could get far with it.
Kaylie:
I usually never can get people to take pictures of me. They always think since I'm usually who is looking through the lens I don't like to be looked at through it. Well, I do. Especially while on Wilson Drive; it's beautiful here and it's like everything is going on at once. Everyone has their own life, their own business that they're tending to. No one is paying attention to anyone else, just themselves. Except me. I'm in the center, taking it all in with every breath. Kind of like I'm right in the middle of it all but in the shadows all the same. It's confusing, contradicting but holds a creative beauty. Photography helps me let out the emotions I hold in daily without saying a word. My photos allows me to share my interpretation, hidden behind the people, the background, the colors, or in some cases the black and white. It's like a whole other world, and I wish it could be my only world. Maybe after all of the complications in my life are over, I'll get a chance at my ideal life.
Chanel walks over to Kaylie and says, "Okay girl, let's go. Sabrena will probably be calling any minute and you know how she gets."
"You're right, let's go," replies K, taking the lead with a smile on her face.
Just day dreaming of the ideal life she's imagined in her head can make the worries of her reality like the shells on the shore of the sea and wash away.
