Emma was walking back from the store with her groceries when she heard a familiar voice behind her. She turned around to see her ex-boyfriend, Jack, standing there with a menacing look on his face.
"Emma, we need to talk," Jack said, his voice filled with anger.
Emma froze, her heart racing in her chest. She knew from experience that Jack had a bad temper and could be dangerous when he was angry. She tried to back away, but Jack stepped forward, blocking her path.
"I told you we're through, Jack," Emma said, trying to sound confident even though she was terrified.
"You can't just break up with me like that," Jack growled. "You're mine, Emma. You belong to me."
Emma felt a surge of anger rise up inside her. She had put up with Jack's controlling behavior for too long, and she wasn't going to take it anymore.
"I don't belong to anyone," Emma said, her voice shaking slightly. "We're over, Jack. Please just leave me alone."
But Jack wasn't listening. He stepped forward again, his fists clenched at his sides. Emma knew she was in trouble. She looked around for help, but there was no one around. She was all alone with Jack.
Suddenly, she heard a voice behind her.
"Is everything okay here?"
Emma turned to see a tall, muscular man standing behind her. He looked strong and confident, and she felt a sense of relief wash over her.
"I'm fine," Emma said, trying to sound brave. "Just an old friend causing trouble."
The man looked at Jack, his expression stern.
"You heard the lady," he said. "Leave her alone."
Jack glared at the man, then turned and walked away without saying a word. Emma let out a sigh of relief and turned to thank her rescuer.
"Thank you," she said, her voice shaking. "I don't know what I would have done without you."
The man smiled at her, his eyes kind.
"It's no problem," he said. "I'm just glad I could help. Are you okay?"
Emma nodded, still feeling a bit shaky.
"I'm fine," she said. "Thanks to you."
She vaguely recongnized him, but couldn't tell who he was.
The man introduced himself as Pedro and offered to walk Emma home. She accepted gratefully, feeling safe with him by her side.
"Pedro wait, like Pedro Pascal?" she asked him. "Yes, I am Pedro Pascal."
"Cool," she said.
As they walked, Pedro asked Emma about herself. She told him about her job, her hobbies, and her life in general. Pedro was a good listener, and Emma found herself opening up to him more than she had with anyone in a long time.
When they reached Emma's apartment building, Pedro offered to walk her to her door. Emma hesitated for a moment, then nodded. She didn't want the evening to end just yet.
They chatted on the doorstep for a few minutes, laughing and joking like old friends. Emma felt herself relaxing in Pedro's company, feeling safe and protected.
As they said goodbye, Pedro handed her a small piece of paper with his phone number on it.
"Call me anytime," he said. "If you ever need someone to talk to or someone to be there for you, I'm here."
Emma smiled at him, feeling a warmth in her chest.
"Thank you Pedro," she said. "You don't know how much this means to me."
