Chapter 2

Amber Freeman and her friends Chad, Liv, and Mindy were all piled up in the backseat of Liv's car, on their way to a haunted house. Chad and Liv were yelling and screaming, while Amber and Mindy were chatting away, excitedly talking about random things.

As they drove, Tara, Amber's arch-nemesis and secret crush, sat next to mindy, staring at the group of friends with a hint of jealousy. She felt left out, and she wished she could be a part of their group. Tara couldn't help but stare at Amber a lot, admiring her beauty and intelligence.

"Guys, can you please keep it down?" Amber yelled over the noise, trying to get their attention. "We need to be able to hear each other think."

Chad and Liv quieted down for a moment, but soon they were back to their loud antics. Amber rolled her eyes and turned to Mindy to continue their conversation.

"So, did you hear about that new restaurant that just opened up downtown?" Mindy asked, excitedly."No, I haven't. Tell me more!" Amber replied, genuinely interested. Tara couldn't help but listen in on their conversation, feeling envious of their easy camaraderie. She wished she could be a part of their group, but she knew that would never happen. She kept staring at Amber, admiring her beauty and the way she interacted with her friends. Tara couldn't help but feel a pang of jealousy every time Amber laughed at something Chad or Liv said, and she wished it was her making Amber laugh instead."Hey, Tara, are you okay?" Amber suddenly asked, pulling Tara out of her thoughts. "You've been awfully quiet back there."Tara blushed, feeling embarrassed. "I'm fine," she replied, trying to sound casual. "Just enjoying the ride."Amber smiled at her, and Tara felt her heart skip a beat. She just really couldn't help but stare at Amber , mesmerized by her smile and the way her eyes sparkled in the dim light of the car. She longed to tell Amber how she felt, but she knew it was impossible. She was rude to Amber, and she would never feel the same way about Tara. Tara tried to push her feelings aside and focus on the haunted house they were about to visit. As they arrived, Chad and Liv were practically bouncing out of their seats with excitement. Amber and Mindy were more composed, but they too seemed eager to explore the spooky mansion.Tara tried her best to keep up with them, but she found herself falling behind. She kept staring at Amber, wishing she could hold her hand or wrap her arm around her. But she knew that would never happen, so she kept her distance and tried to enjoy the experience on her own.As they emerged from the haunted house, Chad and Liv were still screaming and laughing, while Amber and Mindy were discussing the special effects and the costumes. Tara couldn't help but frown.
