Ezio, Dastan, and what was left of their family were just down the road from Monteriggioni. Claudia was clinging onto Dastan's arm. She occasionally would look at him, but he would show little expression on his face, but as of right now his face was masked by his hood. Why were they wearing such bizarre clothes? She thought. But she could tell Dastan was hurting about his father, for she could feel him shaking. It wasn't so much that it was noticeable, but she could feel it just barely.
He had to be strong not just for his mother, but for his mother, for Claudia, and his unborn sibling.
His mother had told him the news on the road to Monteriggioni. To say that it was a shock to everyone was an understatement. But they were close to their destination, and were happy too.
Ezio:
We should be close
Claudia:
Grazie a Dio (Thank God).
Along the way, they were stopped by Vieri de' Pazzi, who was accompanied by several guards.
Vieri:
Buongiorno (Good day), Ezio! Dastan! How could you leave Firenze without saying a proper goodbye?
Claudia:
Ezio! Dastan!
Ezio:
What do you want, Vieri?
Vieri:
So many things. A larger palazzo, two new steeds, a prettier bride... oh and yes... your lives.
Vieri's guards attacked Ezio, and Dastan, and their families.
Vieri:
My condolences for the loss of your father and brothers. What will happen now that there's no one left to help you? I have such wonderful things in store for your mother and sister.
Dastan:
Over my dead body!
The guards attacked them, and Dastan took out his sword, and spear, and became a whirlwind. A few guards got past him, and Dastan disarmed one of the guards, and tossed his sword to his mother who too became a whirlwind with the sword. Ezio took out a couple of stragglers with his hidden blade.
Dastan glared at Vieri, who flinched in fear at his gaze.
Vieri:
I grow tired of this game. Finish them! And do not spare the women!
More guards advanced on them. However, they were killed from behind by throwing knives.
Vieri:
What sorcery is this?!
An unknown voice called out from beyond Vieri's sight.
Mario:
Not sorcery, boy. Skill!
Vieri:
Show yourself!
Mario:
As you wish.
The mysterious man appeared and tossed Ezio a sword.
Mario:
Here. Use this!
Ezio caught the sword, and was now ready to fight.
Vieri:
Kill them! Kill them all!
Vieri fled while Ezio, Dastan, Jasmine and the man dealt with the guards. They made short work of them. Ezio then approached the stranger.
Ezio:
You have my thanks.
He offered the sword back, but Mario rejected it.
Mario:
Keep the sword, Ezio.
Ezio:
Do I know you from somewhere?
He asked the man with a look of familiarity but couldn't place him.
