It was a warm sunny morning when the ring of Isobel's phone disrupted her slumber. The young woman groaned and yawned, arising unwillingly to silence the noise. She held her phone close to her face as her crimson eyes adjusted to attempt to figure out who on Earth would be calling her, and to no one's surprise it was none other than her beloved friend Carrine. She answered the phone. "You know, you're lucky I was nice enough to answer you when I was having an incredible dream." Isobel said dramatically. Carrine rolled her piercing green eyes dramatically as if Isobel could see her sass from the other end of the phone. "I'm almost positive that you have no clue what you were even dreaming about." And before Isobel could whip up a response Carrine spoke again. "No need to even deny it, I know you too well. Now, get your butt up and ready before we're late for school. And you better eat something or else." Carrine playfully threatened. "Yes mom." Isobel snickered as she hung up the phone and began getting herself ready for the day, eating a granola bar as she got dressed. She knew better than to try and test her best friend when it came to her wellbeing.

Isobel got herself together and went outside to only be greeted by Carrine. "Did you actually eat something, or did you just eat a granola bar?" She immediately questioned as Isobel grabbed her hand and pulled her along towards the path they took to get to school. "You know, I still get nutrients and all from eating granola bars. It's basically breakfast on the go." She insisted. Carrine just sighed in defeat and followed. "I will hurt you." She huffed as Isobel giggled. Their banter was cut short by ringing coming from Carrine's phone. As she read the caller ID, she saw it was her boyfriend and Isobel enthusiastically gestured for her to answer and she did. "Good morning to you too... Yes, we're on our way... Aright, I'll see you then, bye." Carrine responded before she ended the phone call. Isobel pouted. "You don't even say I love you?!" She said dramatically. "No need to constantly state the obvious." Carrine rebutted her friends' overdramatized behavior. "If I had a relationship like you and Ashmund I would say it consistently so my partner could never come to the conclusion that I don't love them at all times!" Isobel passionately exclaimed. Carrine sighed. "Yes, I'm well aware that you're a hopeless romantic." She said as she now began to drag her best friend off to school.

Soon enough the girls arrived at the school. Even though it was still in the early hours of the morning quite a few of the students were already creating quite a ruckus while others either kept to their cliques or were shacked up in a corner with their partners. Ashmund approached the girls once he was able to locate them and as usual, he stuck right by Carrine's side, the three engaging in small talk until their first class. Isobel sat at her desk and a boy sat beside her as the class filled with students. This boy's name was Claude, he was an acquaintance of Isobel, and she would be lying if she said she wasn't attracted to him. Luckily for her, they were typically paired together for class assignments and projects. She had been working up the courage to ask this guy to hang out with her since they met and as if her luck couldn't get any better, they were assigned a report where they would be working with a partner and Claude looked over in Isobel's direction as soon as partners were brought up. She almost instantaneously felt her cheeks flush a bit as she smiled and nodded at him. Hey, a step closer in her mission. What could go wrong?

As class went on to begin their reports, Isobel slid her desk over to Claude's and she smiled brightly. "Well, it looks like we're partners again as usual. If you were up for it, I was planning on meeting my friends for coffee after school if you'd like to join us." She offered. Claude chucked at her. "We've been assignment partners for what? The last 2 years and you've just now gotten the courage to ask me out?" Claude said teasingly as he raised his eyebrow, a smirk pulling at his lips. Isobel immediately huffed, feigning offense. "Well, it's not like you were going to make the first move either after 2 whole years." She fired back. Claude chucked, his icy blue eyes narrowing slightly. "I suppose I can't refuse. I'd like to get to know you more." He said which of course made Isobel flush slightly. "I suppose it couldn't hurt." She smiled as the two began to work on their essay.

After class Claude gladly walked Isobel to her next class despite it making him tardy. He didn't really seem to care, he only wanted to talk to her, which made Isobel's heart throb. The entire way to her class the two made small talk, asking each other questions to get to know the other better. When they reached Isobel's class Claude smiled down at her. "See you after school then? I'll be waiting out front for you." He said and waved goodbye as he walked hurriedly to his classroom before he could get himself into trouble. Isobel went into her class and sat beside Carrine, a lovestruck look written clear as day across her face. "Who was that?" Carrine asked, raising an eyebrow as she looked over towards Isobel. "You look like you've been struck by cupid." She said jokingly. "He's a guy in my science class. We've been partners on assignments for the last couple years, he's super sweet." Isobel explained. Carrine giggled a bit. "How could I forget, you raved about him like the first time you saw him. You swore it was love at first sight." Carrine teased. Isobel huffed. "Who knows? It just might be." Isobel exclaimed with a determined look in her eyes. "As long as you're happy and he doesn't hurt you, that's all that matters to me because then I may have to hurt him. I have to protect my bestie after all." Carrine said as her and Isobel exchanged heartfelt smiles.

To Isobel, the rest of school went by in a flash. All she could think of was enjoying spending time with Claude. Was this really the true love that she so desperately wished for?
