I woke up in Max's apartment feeling a sense of relief wash over me. I didn't have to go back to my parents' house, and I didn't have to pretend to be someone I wasn't. For the first time in a long time, I felt like I could breathe.
As I sat in the kitchen, sipping on a cup of coffee, Max walked in and wrapped his arms around me.
"Good morning, love," he said, kissing me on the forehead.
"Good morning," I replied, leaning into him. "Thank you for letting me stay here."
"Anytime, Dio. You know that," he said, smiling. "I'm just glad you're safe."
We spent the morning making breakfast together and talking about our plans for the day. Max had to work, but he promised to take me to the grocery store later so I could pick up some essentials. I was grateful for his help and support, but I couldn't help feeling a little overwhelmed.
"What am I going to do, Max?" I asked, as we sat down to eat. "I don't have a job, I don't have any money, and I don't know how to take care of myself."
"Don't worry, Dio," Max said, taking my hand. "We'll figure it out together. You're not alone anymore."
His words filled me with a sense of hope, and I knew that he was right. With Max by my side, I felt like I could face anything.
After breakfast, Max left for work, and I spent the day exploring the apartment and getting to know the neighborhood. I felt like a stranger in a new city, but I tried to remind myself that this was a new beginning. I had a chance to start over and be true to myself, and that was something that I had never had before.
When Max came home from work, he surprised me with a small cake and a present.
"Happy belated birthday, Dio," he said, as I blew out the candles.
"Thanks, Max," I said, smiling. "This is really sweet."
I opened the present to find a book on budgeting and personal finance. I laughed, knowing that it was something I desperately needed.
"Thanks, Max," I said, giving him a hug. "You're the best."
As we settled on the couch to watch a movie, I felt a sense of peace settle over me. I didn't know what the future held, but I knew that I had a safe haven with Max. And for now, that was all I needed.
