Chapter 2

As the sun rays beam into the room, I try to shift the covers over my face but was only brought out of my sleepy haze by the sharp pain coming from my arms. I struggled to get up, but my body was sore from the day before made me struggle. I looked down to see what was wrong with my arms, only to see they were covered in bruises. I quickly look around to see if anybody is around. Thankfully, I'm alone. Everybody is probably already headed out to the Great Hall to eat before they have to go to class. I sat there and looked out the window as I could feel the sun's warm rays soak onto my skin. It was going to be a warm day, and here I had to be covered up so that my bruises couldn't be seen. I sigh to myself, and I get up, grunting as I slowly get to my trunk and put on my long-sleeve blouse and a long skirt. I braid my long black cherry hair, and I throw my house robe on, hoping it would hide more of me. I take a deep breath in, leave the cozy room and try to walk like nothing is wrong. The common room is quiet and half empty, with only a few people left. I keep walking and start my walk to the Great Hall to grab a little something to eat. I sit down at the long table marked Hufflepuff with the piles of food stretching across the whole table, and I grab the seat near the very end, near the exit where nobody is too busy chatting with friends. I look around at the many options to eat and land my eyes on some fresh fruit, and go to grab one before I see a shadow tower over me.

"Well, look who it is. It's all our little siren sitting by herself again," Sebastian says, looking at me with a mischievous smile as he sits down on the opposite side at the end of the table with me. I take a deep breath and grab a peach from the many choices on the plate.

"So it looks like I won't be able to run away from that now, will I?" I look down, hoping no one will hear what we are discussing. I bite into the sweet fruit

"From the way he was going on last night, I doubt you'll be able to," Ominis says as he joins us and starts to lean out the edge of the table, "I think calling you a songbird or a mermaid would be nicer than a siren," he continues as he looks in my general direction

"Oh come on, Ominis siren fits, with the way she can make you and the ghosts follow her voice." Sebastian jokes as he grabs an apple for himself, "Do you think you can use your charming voice to get the professors not to give us homework?"

"If I could, don't you think I would have done it to give me less extra lesson." I sigh as I eat more of the fruit. "Unlike you guys, I have to run around to every professor so I can catch up. Sometimes I think this is all too much." I look into my half-eaten peach and think of all the things on today's schedule

"I guess that's fair. But hey, if you ever need a break, you could always come to sing for us. You looked relaxed when you were at Sir Nick's party." Sebastian says as he puts the core of his apple on a plate

" I, too, wouldn't mind if you did. Your voice was quite enchanting to listen to. If I may be so bold, who taught you how to sing?" Ominis politely asks as he joins Sebastian in sitting.

"Umm... well," I start and look at the boys, now looking at me with curiosity. I begin to fiddle with my peach pit and take a deep breath, "well, my mother is a muggle opera singer, and my father is a wizard who is a conductor. My mom gave me lessons while my father played the music to whatever song we sang. It was always fun to see his magic lift the instruments around him as he played the piano himself."

"Well, that would explain why you sound so lovely with how you were raised. I'm guessing you were working to be like your mother?" Sebastian leans forward a bit, hoping to get more out of me.

"I was going to go for an audition, but the pressure started to get to me. At that moment, things started to float around me. If my father wasn't there to stop me, my magic might have gone out of hand. The next day professor Fig showed up at our door with a letter to Hogwarts, saying he would help me during the summer to learn how to control my powers with my father's help, of course. So instead of following my mother's footsteps, it looks like I'll be following my father's." I look at them and give a shy smile, " But that's just life for you, constantly twisting things to make it challenging."
