INTERVIEWER: and when did you finally get to tell your parents about the encounter?

VIVIENNE: that night, at dinner. I did not hesitate whatsoever.

VIVIENNE'S FINGERS GRACED THE KEYS of the piano until she heard the front door click open. She rushed to get up from the seat and greet her father, ushering him toward the dining table.

"Vivienne, christ amore, what's going on?" Vivienne's father, Thomas, asked with a slight laugh as the girl ushered him into his seat.

"I really need to talk to you and mama about something, it cannot wait or else I might lose this opportunity," Vivienne spoke hastily.

Vivienne's mother raised her eyebrow at her eldest daughter curiously as she set the food on the table.

"Is this big news you confessing your crime against my piggy bank?" Felicity sassed. The comment caused Vivienne to roll her eyes.

"Shut up, it's bigger than your stupid allowance money for chores you don't even do." The elder retaliated.

"Enough you two. Vivienne tell us your big news mia stellina." Anita placed the last plate onto the table and finally took her seat.

"Right, okay," Vivienne fished in her pocket and pulled out the business card, handing it to her father. "I was at cafe con libros earlier and this scouting agent for this modeling industry approached me and asked me to have you call her."

Thomas stared at the card in his hand before handing it to Anita.

"This is big, amore. Are you sure this is something you really and truly want?" Thomas asked his daughter, sincerity in his voice.

"Yes! I finally feel like I could have something going for me. If it's okay with you guys, it's a step I'd like to take on my career path." Vivienne grinned.

"Well, it's all the way in New York City, that's a lot of traveling back and forth.. and.. well, your only fourteen." Anita sighed.

"Please, mama, and you know I turn fifteen soon, please, ma," Vivienne pleaded, her voice an octave above a whisper. The girl's mind was racing, she knew her parents only wanted the best for her, and yet, she sat there contemplating every outcome of this situation. Would they think she was selfish for wanting this? Would they support her? Was this a controversial topic? Would they say no? Even worse, would they say no and tell her that wasn't the path laid out for her?

Anita and Thomas looked at each other and sighed, knowingly giving in.

"Alright," Anita nodded, "but that doesn't mean you can start slacking around the house, and don't quit your babysitting job either, and please, don't let this change you. Don't let it destroy you."
