It was a cloudy day, nothing particularly different than the usual weather you'd see this month, the inconsistent weather had some people around the shores catching the cold but other than that, today might be a little cooler than usual, most people living here would be fine without a jacket or a scarf, I kept a jacket packed in my bag everyday just in case.
I pedaled through the streets after school to visit this small café in the city, my eyes observing the sidewalks to make sure I did not miss the café. It stood right between the arts and crafts shop and a school supply store, so it wasn't an uncommon stop for students to hangout after school. I just so happened to have run out of ink at school earlier, so I decided to visit the store before getting a drink at the café. I parked my bike on the wall beside the door.
A girl with her hair tied back in a ponytail was walking to the exit, her hands full with stacks of paper. I opened the door for her and made a small motion with my arm telling her to walk through. "Thank you very much." she said, making a small bowing motion towards me. I nodded and walked past her to buy some pen refills.
After a short transaction with the cashier I finally found myself inside the café ordering a hot cup of latte, it was quite the crowded place but I believe it's worth it, the experience at least. The drinks they served here tasted good and the variety of the drinks here cater to the majority, other than that, its cute and warm interior makes it popular especially among teenage girls. I grabbed a chair as I waited for my order to be made. After a while, I heard the barista say, "Order for (L/N)?" I walked over and grabbed the cup of coffee, it had a nice and warm strong scent. I walked outside of the store in a relaxed manner before looking up into the cloudy sky, I quickly got on my bike and rode towards my place, the clouds started to gather and gloomed the sky, the road ahead of me darkened. I was at the outskirts of town when I started feeling droplets of rain hitting my cheek one by one.
My eyes looked for a roof to hide under. As the drops of rain started to intensify, I found a small bus stop right ahead of me, I quickly pedalled towards it and noticed someone sitting there, I parked my bike under the roof and made it just in time. The rain started pouring and the roof started pattering. My heart was pounding, I grabbed my hot cup of coffee as the downpour of rain started to make the air cool.
"Oh- You're the boy from before, right?" a female voice called out to me, I looked at the direction and saw the girl from before. "Oh, hey." I awkwardly took a seat to her left, I placed the cup of coffee on my lap and felt its warmth on my hands. The winds started blowing and the drops of rain started to hit my lap, I moved slightly to the right to avoid getting my pants wet. "I'm sorry if this is making you uncomfortable." I said to her, she shook her head, "Don't worry, I'm used to this kind of situation.""I didn't expect the weather to be this bad." I stared at the puddle forming in front of me, I turned towards my previous seat and saw the bench already dripping with water. "Are you okay over there?" I asked her, she leaned over and looked at the seat beside me, "I'm fine, just feeling a little bit cold."She looked at me and asked "You're a high schooler, right? What year are you in?""Third year.""Oh, so you're the same age as I am."I smiled at her, "My name is (L/N) (Y/N), nice to meet you."
With a warm smile on her face she said, "The name's Matsuura Kanan, nice to meet you too!""Were you waiting for the bus?" I asked her, she shook her head and pointed towards the sea."I live close by, so a little walking wouldn't hurt."
The rain continued to pour harshly onto the rusty roofs of the bus stop. "It's getting colder isn't it." I said quietly as I stood up, I started stretching and moving my body, purposefully avoiding eye contact with her. "Y-yeah..." she answered. I turned around to look at her, she had her arms crossed and tucked in.A few seconds went by without her saying anything, I looked at her again once more to see her tapping her feet, I sat back down next to her."Are you feeling cold?" I asked her, "Hmm?" she leaned over towards me, the sound of the rain must've drowned my voice out, "Are you feeling cold over there?" I asked with my voice a little louder than before."No, it's just a little breezy." she denied.
