I don’t know how it happened but the next thing I remember was jumping out my bedroom window and then somehow end up at Greyson's house. I must have thought it was the best idea for me to go somewhere I feel safe. I knock on the door and Greyson's dad answers “yes hello can I help you?” he asks, “yes I was wondering if I could speak to Greyson, please?” he nods and asks, “who should I say is here?” “hazel” I respond. He closes the door and a few moments later Greyson comes to the door. “Hey hazel what's up?” he asks. “Greyson, I have run away from home is there any chance I could stay with you?” I respond. He pulls me inside and closes the door. “Hey mum, dad could you come here for a minute?” he asks. His parents come into the hallway and look a little shocked. “what's up?” his mum asks. I stand there shaking unsure what to do. Greyson stands there and explains what happened. I stand there unable to move. “I jumped out my bedroom window on the second floor” I manage to tell them. “Is there any chance hazel could stay here tonight as she is clearly very upset?” Greyson asks. “We will have to call the police and let them know hazel is here because otherwise it is classed as kidnapping” his dad tells us. His dad rings the police while I just sit there, and Greyson tries to keep me distracted. After a while his dad comes of the phone and tells us that the police will come over as soon as possible. For the time being we go upstairs, and I get hold of Clara on Greyson's phone. “hello” she answers as she picks up the phone. “Hey Clara, don’t freak out but it's me hazel, I ran away from home and I'm at Greyson's right now waiting for the police to come over” I tell her hoping she won't freak out. “Oh, thank god, I'm glad your safe I had Esme message me asking if I had seen you” she tells me. “No, I'm ok now,” I answer “but please whatever you do don’t tell her where I am” I beg her. “I won't I promise” she tells me, and I believe her. “We will keep you updated.” Greyson butts in and tells her. “Ok you better.” she responds. After the phone call with Clara, I just sit there unsure how to react to the world around me. “Why don’t you tell me what happened, that made you jump out of your window?” Greyson asks me “okay” I say hoping getting it off my chest will help. I take a deep breath “it was all ok when I got home, I had my bath and did my diner and all the normal things I do when I get home from school, but then Esme came home with the boys and she totally blanked me and refused to talk to me and when I asked her what I did wrong she told me to wait until my dad gets home. So I wait for my dad to get home even though I already know why she won't speak to me, so my dad comes home and he starts having a go at me and so does Esme and I don’t really know what to do so I yell back and I tell them that if they actually opened their eyes they would see why I was like this and why I was hurting myself. They get even more mad at me, and they tell me at this rate I'm not getting my door and belongings back for a long time. I get mad at this, and I say that abuse you are restricting me from having basic needs. They respond with and what if it is” I pause to take a breath and Greyson looks at me shocked. I continue the story. “I tell them that I will run away and not come home, they laugh at me and tell me that I wouldn’t last two seconds without them, I storm upstairs and while Esme is in the bath and my dad is downstairs with the boys I pack an overnight bag and I open my window and sit on the canopy below my bedroom, I must have sat there for a good 15 minutes before I finally throw my bag on to the floor and jump down after it, I pick it up as fast as I can and I run, I just run and run as fast as I can straight through the meadow and I don’t stop until I'm at yours” I look back at Greyson and he is just sitting there. I sit next to him, and I stare into space. We sit like that for a couple of minutes in silence
