The Tech-Knowledge interior was not a bad-looking one at all. Quite impressive, actually. On the outside, the building was inconspicuous. Just another office building in the downtown area. But this is nice decor, he thought, and hello ladies. He appraised the secretary and other working women who threw him suggestive glances now and then. What a nice selection we have here.

"Javier Quinton?" The secretary called, "Ms. Rosheuvel will see you now. Good luck!"

An ordinary guy would have become apprehensive with such an introductory greeting, but in Javier's case, it only aroused his curiosity even further.

He looked at the secretary and smiled. "Thanks a lot, Katie. I'm sure it won't be a problem."

He was satisfied when he saw the look of pleasurable surprise on her face at his mention of her name. He winked at her, then walked towards the door marked ELIZABETH ROSHEUVEL - PERSONAL OFFICE in simple lettering. He knocked twice, and a voice called out in a loud but gentle tone, "Come in."

He did, and with his black leather briefcase still in hand, he sat in the seat on the other side of the large desk.

She was writing something on a piece of paper, her office chair facing away from him behind the desk. From his vantage point, he could see her legs, long and smooth, and her feet sporting classic black pumps. Above the chair's backrest, her hair cascaded in tresses that appeared soft and touchable. The dark curls bounced around the seemingly flawless caramel skin of her shoulders every time her head moved.

"Javier Quinton?" She turned around to face him.

Nothing could have prepared him for the shock he received when he saw her face. His father was right. She was beautiful. Albeit, her lips were a little thin for his liking, and her eyebrows were just a tad bit unruly, but her eyes. . .they were a deep swirl of chocolate that he found entrancing. The woman was gorgeous.

Wait a minute. He was Javier Quinton--the Javier Quinton--and he usually kept his cool around women, although it could be safely said that he had never met a woman more beautiful. Nevertheless, he had a reputation to maintain.

"Yes, that's me." He shot her an easy grin and leaned back into his chair. His gaze wandered along the neckline of the sleeveless blouse she wore before meeting her eyes again.

She looked at him without smiling and asked, "You're applying for the job of Database Administrator?"

"Yes, that would be correct."

"Why?"

The question caught him slightly off guard. No resume? No "Tell me about yourself?" or any of the other generic interview questions? This was different.

He thought for a moment, then answered, "I know that the company not only creates computers and systems, but it also programs other forms of media for other companies and organizations. Also, recently you started a large database system so that your clients can submit information for storage with the guarantee of confidentiality. The Database Administrator interacts with managers and users to ensure that the database is accomplishing what they need. I believe that I have the proper qualifications and eagerness to work well in this area of Tech-Knowledge." The rehearsed speech was delivered in a monotone.

He looked at the woman before him, but she merely nodded and proceeded to ask,

"Based on your knowledge of the position, can you tell me some of the responsibilities of the role?"

"Whenever there are changes in a company's operation, the DBA coordinates meetings with the clients to bring the database up to date by making suitable modifications. The role is also responsible for developing policies and procedures to ensure the security and integrity of the system and selecting and maintaining the database software, coordinating the database design, and establishing backup and recovery procedures in the case of failure or loss of data. Additionally, the DBA updates and manages the data dictionary that records company-wide data definitions and standards for use by the company. These are the main responsibilities of the position, but I'm sure many other ad-hoc tactical tasks fall under these larger umbrellas. In addition to coming up with strategies to help the company stay on edge in the ever-changing world of database tech, I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty in the tactical day-to-day tasks as needed to ensure systems and processes are followed meticulously. Suffice to say, I'm pretty much perfect for the role, and I think you know it."
