Damien sat in the back seat with Malia on his lap. There weren't enough seats and someone had to sit on someone. Of course, Damien was more then happy to have Malia as close to him as possible. He had his arms wrapped around her and his chin on her shoulder.
Malia leaned forward, making Damien's chin fall away from her shoulder. "Okay, I'll ask... Who's Kate Argent?"
Kira cleared her throat quietly. "Uh, I'd like to know, too..." She seemed guilty as she said it.
Stiles glanced at Scott. "Well, we were at her funeral, so I'd like to know how she got out of a casket that was buried six feet underground."
Scott shook his head. "She was never in it."
"She was Allison's aunt... and a total sociopath." Lydia looked out the window with a sigh.
"You don't have to talk about it now if you don't want to - "
Malia cut her off, "um, yes, he does!"
"I agree with her. I'd like to know." Damien said tiredly.
"See! He agrees!" Malia pointed out.
Lydia rolled her eyes. "He always agrees with you."
She said it quietly but Damien still heard her. "That's because she's always right." He said like it was obvious.
"Yeah, she's right. You guys should know. You need to know." Scott started and looked at Stiles, wanting him to start.
"All right... Kate was the one who set the fire that killed most of Derek's family."
"Some of them survived, like Cora and Peter..." Scott continued.
"A very angry Peter." Lydia commented.
"Yeah, he's the one who bit and turned me - "
"And the one who finally caught up to Kate and killed her."
"And we saw her buried." Stiles pointed out.
"No..." Scott pursed his lips. "We saw a casket, remember? She wasn't in it."
"The Calaveras heard that Kate had been killed by an Alpha's claws. They wanted to make sure she was really dead. Her body was healing, more and more, as she got closer to the full moon. She was coming back. So, they switched the bodies. If a Hunter is bit, they have to take their own life before they change. The Calaveras... they treat the Code like law. They make it their responsibility to enforce it."
Kate was supposed to kill herself but instead she tricked them and escaped, killing many people on her way out. "Good for her! I wouldn't do it, either." Malia said firmly, leaning back. As soon as her back was against Damien's chest, his chin was back on her shoulder and he took a whiff of her scent.
