Moving to New York was the scariest thing I've ever done in my entire life. I found my roommate, Anika, on an online student's website. She is the sweetest roommate ever. Our relationship quickly and naturally evolved from being roommates to good friends. I still remember the day she introduced me to her friends as if it was yesterday.
"Come on y/n! Don't be scared, they're the nicest people ever!" she dragged me by the arm to her friend's apartment where we were supposed to meet. We only had a few blocks to go before arriving there. "Wait up Anika!" I pressed, laughing slightly, before doing a mixture between running and walking to catch up to her. She was more than eager to present me to her friends and finding myself alone in a dark alley in New York City was for sure at the bottom of my list. We quickly arrived there, and Anika took it to herself to do a quick reminder of who was who before we entered the building.
"Alright, so there is Mindy right, my girlfriend. Then you have her brother Chad, they look like each other, you'll definitely recognised them both quickly." She spoke quickly, hands flying in every directions and eyes smiling, with that little sparkle of excitement.
I sighed with an airy chuckle, trying to take in as much information as I could.
"Then you have Ethan, he's Chad's roommate. Tall, curly hair, really shy. And finally, the ones living in the apartment where we are going. So, you have Quinn, the redhead, Sam the older sister and Tara the younger one. Alright?"
"Yeah, I guess." I chuckled nervously because of the many individuals I'll soon be faced with.
She already told me about the Carpenters sisters and what they went through. At first, I was really sceptical of mingling with them. I really did not need to attract murders around me, but she was able to convince me that all of that was behind them. And I mean, the murders were all in Woodsboro, we were in New York, surely, they would not go as far as to follow them here just to kill them. It also apparently took a lot to convince them to let me join them. No surprises there, I would definitely be wary of everyone if something similar were to happen to me.
"I can't wait for you to meet them" she grinned from ear to ear. I reciprocated her huge smile, looking down to her sparkling eyes. The shots we drank in our dorm were probably slowly kicking in.
Who I guess was Sam came to open the door for us. "Hey Anika!" she greeted with a smile. "So, you must be Y/N. It's nice to finally meet you." She gave me a tight smile, eying me cautiously but still trying to be inviting.
"Hey, yeah it's me. You're Sam, right?" I could see her eyebrows drawing together, eyes slightly darkening and mouth opening, ready to say something. "Oh no! Anika just described me everyone and I took a wild guess!" I rushed to say, clearly getting where her look was coming from. What a way to start. Her face relaxed a little bit as she gave me a slight nod and opened the door further to let me in. Anika who watched the exchanged intently and was ready to step in at any moment, led the way, holding my forearm. Meanwhile, Sam busied herself with closing the door before moving to the kitchen.
We were directly greeted by everyone in the living-room. Sitting down, talking, playing board games and having fun. They quickly stopped and looked at Anika and myself, broad smiles adorning their faces. They all seemed as if they were waiting for the introductions that never came, as Sam made her way back to the living room.
Anika went on and greeted everyone while I remained put where she left me. Chad noticed the discomfort on my face and took it to himself to present everyone. "Hey Y/N, Anika told us a lot about you!" Anika turned around when she heard her name and quickly smiled as she saw the interaction. Chad continued, "So this is Mindy" she winked at me and gave a small wave as she took Anika in her arms, who was settling in next to her. "This is Tara and Sam, the infamous sisters" he continued with a slight chuckle, probably to diffuse the tension. Both sisters gave me a slight smile. "This is Quinn, the sisters' roomie" which was quickly followed by a greeting coming from the redhead. "And finally, this is Ethan, my roommate." I gave everyone a smile followed by a "nice to meet you" before my eyes fell on Ethan who was looking at the ground. Probably sensing eyes on him he quickly looked up to me. Deep brown eyes, it felt as if he was reading my whole soul. No words were exchanged. Words were probably needless here. We locked eyes for a few seconds too long before we were cut short by Chad, "So who wants a drink?"
That was the first time I locked eyes with him.
