I originally wrote this on November 17, 2022 after watching the first teaser trailer for GAMERA -Rebirth-. I had intended on posting this around that time but the death of Power Rangers actor Jason David Frank changed that and I began writing a tribute fic to him. Though due to the subject matter that the tribute fic deals with, writing has stalled. I do intend on posting it if I ever get it finished.

_______

The young Japanese boy ran through the chaos that was once Tokyo. Buildings lay in rubble all around him. The once blue skies were now covered in thick, black smoke. The street was covered in cracks and giant holes formed when the ground could no longer sustain itself; the boy discovered this when he nearly fell into one.

The smell of death was unbearable; but the boy continued running. Running from the creatures that destroyed his home, his parents...

They had told him to keep running, to not look back, and to get somewhere safe. He did all of that, except for one thing...

He had looked back. When he did that, he saw the monsters devouring his parents.

Tears streamed down his face as the boy remembered what had happened. He was alone now. Both sets of Grandparents were gone and his parents had been the only child of their respective families. If he were to get out of this alive, he'd probably end up in some sort of foster home or orphanage. He had nowhere to go.

Lost in his thoughts, the boy didn't notice the downed power lines in front of him. He tripped and fell on the ground, getting tangled in the wires in the process. The boy struggled to get up when he heard a sound:

*Flap, Flap, Flap* and *BEEEAAAUUUGH!*

He looked up, and that's when he saw it:

the monster that had killed his parents. It was like a hybrid between a bat and a Pterosaur. The creature had massive bat-like wings that allowed it to fly. The monster's skin was a reddish-brown color and it's body was covered in a mix of scales and leather. It's body was streamlined, had a neck long, and had a beak filled with sharp teeth. It's legs ended in sharp claws that could easily lift a bear off of the ground. On top of it's head was V-shaped crest; the boy had originally though that crest was just for show. He was proven wrong when the crest glowed yellow and out from the creatures mouth came a beam that leveled what remained of his home.

His Great-Grandmother had told him a legend about how a group of flying, man-eating beasts came to Japan and started to eat the populace. When she had shown the boy a picture of what the beasts supposedly looked like, they resembled the very monsters that were chasing him now. Great-Grandmother has called them "Gyaos".

The boy froze as Gyaos' yellow eyes looked directly at him and made eye contact. He wondered why the monster was staring at him when it clicked: two of these creatures had eaten his parents and now, the same was about to happen to him.

The boy resumed fighting to untangle himself from the wires as Gyaos landed on the ground. The Gyaos was crawling closer to him and the boy felt his heart-rate rising. No. No. NO! He

couldn't die! He didn't want to die. He didn't want to get eaten! He wanted to live, play with his friends, and even go to school! He wanted to go to space, dig up Dinosaur bones, or become a Prime Minister. He wanted to learn how to drive and get a girlfriend.

He wanted his parents back!

The boy sobbed as the monster neared. He was going to die.

The boy stopped struggling when Gyaos' beak came right up to his face. He sobbed even louder as the monster opened it's mouth. He was going to die.
