It was cold here in Surrey. The castles concrete walls grew as cold as ice. Mother said she had once known a time when all was well, and the sun shone through the castle gates and lit up the town. My chambers had the coldest nights, sometimes it went even a few degrees under.
"Sorry to disturb you miss, but Madam says you must meet her in the library in precisely 10 minutes." Sylvia told me.
"Oh, thank you. Would you be ever so kind and bring me some tea and biscuits, it's gotten so cold." I asked.
"Oh yes of course miss, sorry I'd forgotten. Do you wish to be dressed?"
This was the worst part of my mornings, every single day.
"Emm yes, what's the occasion?" I asked as she pulled out a golden silk gown.
"Madam says that the Prince of Whales will be visiting. I do hope he is nice, he should make a fine husband." Sylvia said.
"I beg your pardon?" I said turning and gasping from the pain of my corset.
"Well of course miss, you're nearly sixteen. You're ready." She smiled." I will bring your tea, don't forget about Madam in the drawing room"
"Library" I corrected her.
"How time does pass away from all of us," she said raking her eyes up and down my body, "what a fine woman you have become."
