Is this gonna become a regular thing? I asked myself, 'cause I'm really not enjoying this.

"Answer my question!" the Charmeleon shouted impatiently, "Are you the one who supposedly defeated Avalanche?"

"Supposedly, yes," I responded, "who wants to know?"

"My name is Blaze, and I've been training and strengthening my moves my entire life," he said confidently, "and there is no way an untrained noob such as yourself could have possibly defeated Avalanche, even if it was dumb luck."

My luck doesn't seem to be improving, I thought to myself, he probably wants to battle me so I can prove that I defeated Avalanche on my own.

"Prove to me that you defeated Avalanche on your own," Blaze said dramatically, There it is, "with a battle!"

"Of course he can take you!" Riri exclaimed, making me jump, Since when does she have a say in this? "Bolt here will overwhelm you!"

"Let's not get ahead of ourselves," I said, trying to defuse the situation, "I really don't have to prove anything."

"Of course you do!" she protested, "How else are you going to get the respect you deserve?"

I thought she didn't believe in violence. Where did this come from? I really don't need any more attention than I already have! This is becoming way too complicated for me.

It looked as though Blaze wasn't going to take no for an answer though. He reared his head back and I felt the familiar tingling again. I shot to the side just as flames burst out of his mouth. I had no idea how I was going to fight, considering the only move I knew that I knew was Iron Tail. Iron Tail was going to do effectively nothing against a Fire type like Charmeleon. Plus, the Flamethrowers he was dishing out were going to make it hard to fight him close quarters. Maybe I should try fighting with a ranged attack as well, Pikachu's gotta know some kind of ranged attack right? That's, like, his whole thing!

I dodged another Flamethrower and tried to muster up a Thunderbolt. I wasn't sure what I was doing or how to even begin channeling any kind of electricity. I tried multiple times to unleash any kind of lightning, even a Thunder Shock would've been nice, but absolutely nothing happened. In my concentration, I didn't notice another Flamethrower headed in my direction. I looked up right as it was on top of me and fear shot through my heart. With Pikachu's low defensive stats, there was no way I was going to make it out of this still standing. There was nothing I could do but accept my fate. I closed my eyes, and waited to be burned alive.

I saw a volcano. Fire type Pokémon littered the surroundings. I was crouched behind a large rock, peeking out to see if the coast was clear. I couldn't make sense of any of the thoughts running through my head. All I knew was that there was a Pokémon somewhere in that Mystery Dungeon that needed rescuing. I turned back and saw a Vulpix standing behind me. She looked absolutely terrified. I nodded to her and she hesitantly nodded back. Together, we made our way towards the dungeon opening. Just as we were about to reach our destination, a Charizard landed heavily in front of us. He roared loudly and we felt it reverberate through our bodies. It moved to attack with a Flamethrower, but I ducked under the flames and rolled towards the big lizard. He launched multiple streams of fire at me, but I continued to dodge all of them. When I got close enough I leaped into the air and focused my energy to my tail. It was a different kind of energy than Iron Tail though, something that felt more... fluid. I slammed my tail into the Charizard and it staggered back. I then took the scalchop off my belly, scalchop?, and it glowed with energy. I went in for the finishing strike.

"You see!" Blaze's voice echoed in my head, "He's a nobody! He could never have defeated an opponent such as Avalanche on his own. He must've had help from at least someone, like our fearless leader for instance."
