He was issued a device that he named the Omnitrix which controls the transformation that are linked into his DNA and also makes sure he is able to control himself.
The weakness of his quirk is that the Omnitrix has a time limit of 5 minutes per alien. When he switches between forms the time limit goes down by 30 seconds and once the 5 minutes are up he reverts back to his normal form and has a 5 minute recharge period. Another weakness is that sometimes it can give him the wrong transformation at the worst times.
