LUCY
Natsu's eyes glimmered with determination and freedom. I wished I could have that glint - that glisten, that gleam of everlasting hope in my eyes. It shimmered as it caught the light, like a mirror or a shard of glass. That shine in his eyes was like a flame that couldn't be put out, whatever the trial it was put through. Like a match, even if it's put out it leaves glowing embers behind amongst the ashes.
"I'm all fired up!" He said, his fist punching the air against the cool breeze. Even the wind was no match for him, his burning passion warmed everything around him, and could thaw through any blue mood. He started off at a sprint and I ended up pleading with him to slow down again, my breaths short and shallow like a paddling pool. And he was the ocean.
"Wait up, Natsu!" I shouted between breaths. He threw a careless glance over his shoulder, a fleeting moment in which our gazes locked again. He stopped in his tracks, before jogging back towards me. I smiled through the fatigue and dusted myself off, although there was no dust in the first place. He stood a mere foot away, and outstretched a hand. I looked down at it blankly, and blinked a couple of times. "Huh?"
"C'mon, Luce! Let's go!" He enthused, extending his arm out further. Tentatively, I placed my hand in his, and his eyes instantly seemed to shine whiter than before. Suddenly, I realised that perhaps he wasn't the glowing embers after a fire. He was a fire that couldn't be put out in the first place, and I was the oxygen giving him the breaths to take on that task.
So I let him drag me off into a run, and we ran and we ran and we ran. We didn't stop, we didn't need to. It was us against the world. And immediately my problems faded away, burnt out from his passionate fire. All I needed was him to keep me going, I had nothing to lose. Nothing to gain, because I'd already achieved heaven when I was with him.
I didn't know what this shine was then, and I don't know what it is now. All I know, is now I have it too. He was the fire, and I was the lighter. Together, we were unstoppable.
Together, we shined.
