"Have you ever thought of leaving and never looking back?" Windsor asks, as she looks at her sister.
"No, well maybe sometimes." Elowen admits.
A knock sounds at her door, causing the girl to sigh. There were two maidens that entered. Elowen left the room, but not without bowing to the Maids.
"Good morning Maybel, Geraldine." Windsor greets the two women.
"You know you could speak to me. It gets quite boring talking to my family, I'd like to at least learn more about you two." The older woman smiled, as she was the opposite of her mother and sisters.
Windsor was the kindest out of all the Hawthorns. She was different than her mother, as she looked nothing like her. Elowen looked exactly like their parents, as Windsor was nothing compared to neither of them. Her eyes always held kindness, and adventure. She would always fight for those who can't, as she would always help the poor whenever they needed food. She would give whatever money her father would always give her whenever the family would go out of town. She'd of course always get a little something for Caspian and his sisters. She'd try her best to sneak in some clothes that are meant for Caspian, or his siblings. Caspian would always wear the same white tunic that would always have black stains or burnt holes in them from the fire. His boots were always worn out, as they would always be melted at the bottom of the souls.
They didn't have much money, as his father would always go to Tortuga and get with a woman, or he'd buy more alcohol for himself. Caspian was more of a father figure for his siblings, especially for MiMi who was growing into a woman. She was turning fourteen soon, so Windsor would help Caspian with certain things that he didn't know what to buy for a woman. They were only children, yet they all act more mature than most adults in London.
"I see mother has already got me a dress. Why must I marry a man that I do not love?" Windsor asked the older women that both gave her sympathetic eyes.
Windsor opens the box with a dress that was neatly folded. As she held the dress in her lap, as she sat on the edge of her bed. The dress was beautiful, it was a lilac dress that had a lighter purple shade corset that had some vines with some flowers on it. It had puffy sleeves that had lace around it as well. She was in a loose dress, as she went over towards the two women.
"You know you don't have to listen to your mother. Caspian is a good man, he is more of a man than most of them in the town." Windsor smiles, as she agrees with them.
"If only mother would agree, but it's all about who's in what class. The richer the better, no matter how much you prove your love for them. Love never wins." The girl sighs to herself.
"I still don't understand why we must wear all these layers. How do they breathe in this?" The girl gasped as they tightened the corset even more. She had another layer that goes over the corset, and she was dreading ever wearing this.
"The women in London love this. It enhances their figure." Windsor struggled to let out a laugh.
A knock sounded at the door, it was a light knock. Windsor grips the dresser as she squeezed her eyes shut.
"How's it coming along?" Windsor shakily let's out another breath of air.
                "I'm dying!" The girl gasps.
"Don't be so dramatic, Windsor." Windsor rolled her eyes.
"You really are trying to kill me, mother." The girl teased, as the two women softly smiled to themselves.
Elowen enters the room next, as she was stopped by the front of the door.
"Mother, the Cavanaughs are here." Elowen announced.
Windsor's heart dropped, the grip on her yellow dresser tightened. Some paint chipped off from her nails scratching the wood. Her knuckles were beginning to get paler as she gripped it so tightly. Maybel noticed how tense Windsor had gotten by the mention of their name.
"You did not tell me they were coming." Windsor hissed, puffing out some air.
"If you weren't in that barn this morning whoring around with that boy then you would've been ready earlier." Her mother sasses back.
"Besides, they should be done by now. "  Windsor bites her bottom lip, dreading the moment that she'd see his face.
They were now finishing up her hair. Her hair was in neat curls, a few pieces were out by the nape of her neck in tight ringlets, a few tiny pieces in the front above her eyebrow, and the other by where her sideburns should be. Windsor had strawberry blonde hair, her eyebrows were a bit darker than her natural hair that compliments her face. She stares at herself in the mirror. She felt beautiful. Her lips were plump, they were no longer swollen from her night with Caspian. Her cheeks were fair again with a hint of pink that rested on the apples of her cheeks. The purple on her dress compliments her gray eyes. She had a petite body, but she was tall for her age. The only ones who were taller than her were Alaric and Caspian. Though Windsor was eye level with the snobby boy she could easily tower over him if she was in her heels. Her hair was in a twist that stopped at the crown of her head. A few locks of her hair was out as it frames her face. She had a square face, and a buttchin.
The two maidens bowed to the girl as they finished helping Windsor get ready. Windsor smiled softly at the two older women as she watched them walk away from the curtain that hid her body.
"You look breathtaking!" Gwenyth gasped, as she had her hands covering her face with praying hands.
Windsor's face tinted a darker shade, her cheeks becoming a cherry color rather than a light blush. She felt awkward in this dress, as she felt nothing like herself. Her mother throws her arms around her shoulders, she had to go on her tiptoes in order to reach her. A surprised look rested on her face when her mother hugged her.
"If only you'd wear this everyday!" Windsor rolled her eyes at her mother's blatant comment.
"I'm not ashamed of how I dress my mother. And besides, men can't control who we are as women." Gwen pursed her lips, her smile soon faded.
Elowen placed a hand over her lips as she suppressed her smile. Gwenyth noticed that her posture was slouched, so she went behind her and placed a hand on her shoulder, and the other on her back where her spine is.
"Do not embarrass me tonight." Windsor gulped, as she knew her mother was serious.
                              "Yes mother." She says.
"Good." She taps her lightly as a signal to start walking.
