Chapter 1: Rain Check
This vacation was supposed to be the best one yet, but it turned out to be the worst one ever.

While my friends were out having fun and partying, here I was sitting on the veranda of our hotel room, bawling my eyes out and trying to contact my boyfriend.

Well, maybe we could call him my ex-boyfriend now.

I cannot believe that he stood me up again! Adam and I are- wait is that a were now?- in a long distance relationship and last time, he promised me that he would come over too, but he lied and didn't have the balls to tell me that he didn't have enough money to fly over. He didn't contact me for two months and when he did, I took him back in an instant.

What? I was in love with him, okay?

This time around I was so sure that he wasn't fucking around anymore and was actually coming to visit me, but it turns out that I was wrong. I should've known than to trust that asshole again.

Katrina, my ever so loyal best friend, stayed behind with me to make sure that I was all right. She watched me as I took another stick from my pack of cigarettes and lit it up. Instantly, I felt the cool menthol travel through my throat as I puffed. I don't usually smoke. I only do it occasionally like when I'm raving or incredibly stressed out and mad. This one specifically, refers to the latter. Katrina stood up and went to stand beside me, putting her hands on my shoulders in an attempt to comfort me reassuringly.

"C'mon Charlotte, you're better than this. I hate to see you this way."

I turned to look at my best friend and sighed before I said, "I know Kat. I'm just mad at myself for letting him fool me again. I honestly thought that he had changed and was sincere when he promised me that it was never going to happen again."

"I can't blame you for putting your faith in him. He was your boyfriend after all and you two have been through so much together."

Just then my phone buzzed. I instantly leapt out of my seat to grab it from the table in front of me, hoping it was a message from Adam.

My face dropped when I saw that it was a text from Coleen.

Coleen Vargas:
the night is still young! stop moping around and come meet us here at Army Navy.

Ah, Coleen. My twin from another mother. She's also one of the people whom I am staying with at the hotel along with Kate (another friend) and Katrina. She made me promise her earlier that if Adam didn't contact me when ten p.m. striked, I would get up and get my ass over to wherever she was. Coleen and I have been buddies since third grade when we helped each other beat up a classmate of ours.

He deserved it okay? He was the one who started it.

After doing a deliberate internal debate on whether I should go out or not, I decided to get up and change into a neon fringe bikini top and black high waist shorts. I slipped on my slippers and grabbed some money from my wallet and put them into the short's pocket. Coleen was right. There's no use in moping around; especially because of someone who doesn't deserve it.

I went to look at my attire when I saw the bloody tattoo that I had had inked on my skin earlier. I had the Roman numeral equivalent of our anniversary inked on my skin. And although it was just a temporary tattoo, I couldn't stress out the need to have it removed asap.

I had it tattooed earlier hoping that when Adam saw it, it would make him see that he was such an important person to me. That we were an important thing to me.

I went back out to the veranda to ask Katrina if she wanted to come with, but she just shook her head and told me that she would rather just stay here at the hotel. I already knew she was going to decline my offer. After all, Katrina was the conservative type. Always went to mass on Sundays, always being the good, responsible person in our clique. Heck, she hasn't even worn a bikini until we had this vacation!
