Waking up in a giant overly comfy bed is one glorious way to start a Saturday. The calm lasts about five seconds until I remember I'm in a hotel room for my best friend's wedding today. With a hectic scramble I'm out of my glorious king bed, I'll definitely be seeing you later, and heading to the closet to grab all of my bridesmaids necessities.
Looking at my phone it's almost 7:30, thankful I slept in my bridesmaids pajamas that double as our getting ready clothes, I make my way to the bride's suite.
Knocking on the door I'm not surprised when Blaire, the bride, answers.
"Hello stunning! The getaway cars parked outside and ready for you, just say the word," I say as I wrap my arms around her and squeeze.
"What would I do without you, Mags?" Her arms wrap around me and squeeze me back just as tightly.
"Honestly, Blaire, you'd probably be lost feral in the woods. Missing posters everywhere." I walk into her monster of a suite, shocked by the sheer size. The makeup artist and hair stylist have already set up shop in their respective corners, ready to take us on.
"Did you stop and see Theo before coming?" Blaire yells across her massive suite.
"Nah, I wanted to be just as shocked as you when our girl walks down the aisle."
Theodora is our other lovely, strong-willed bride today. We met Theo at a bar in college, because of course we were together. Watching my strong headed, take no shit Blaire melt into a loving puppy dog for Theo wasn't something I think either of us expected, but I couldn't imagine a better match. She feels like our missing puzzle piece and today is going to be perfect.
"Magnolia, I need you to tell me today isn't a dream." Blaire storms up behind me and grabs both of my shoulders, "did Theo really say yes? We're at the venue of our dreams and today is happening? I might throw up."
"Blaire, sweaty, I love you. Today is really happening," I say as I grab her face. "go take a nice big drink of some cold water and then see which one of these lovely humans wants to work on you first." I gesture to the two waiting artists still setting up in their corners. She nods while her face is still in my hands and I lean forward to place an obnoxious kiss on her forehead.
I watch Blaire as she follows my instructions. Feeling pleased with myself, I take a seat on one of the many couches available and get lost in my cell phone. A couple more members of the bridal party filter in and the room gets more and more lively.
Blaire and I have stepped into her bathroom so I can help her get dressed. Her soft golden blonde hair is in its natural curly state, half up I'm sure with a million bits and bobs to secure it in place like mine is. I watch as she walks over to the white gown bag hanging by a window. Blaire takes a hearty breath as she reaches for the zipper and starts to pull it down. I can't help but gasp when the dress is fully revealed, perfectly Blaire. It's a wispy tulle gown with a fitted corset top. The sleeves of her dress are the same tulle material, they're tight until they hit her elbows and then they bellow out, giving a perfect ethereal vibe.
Theo's going to lose her goddamn mind.
Blaire turns around to look at me after I zip her dress up and her blue eyes are dark, a telltale sign she's about to cry.
"Oh baby girl, don't cry. Your perfect makeup will melt right off your face." I'm rewarded with a laugh from her glassy eyed self. "Even if you do, the makeup artist is still here and she'll fix you right up." For some reason that opens the floodgates and he's a blubbery mess in my arms.
"I just can't believe.. Theo actually likes me." She cries between gasps of air.
"You're a dream, of course she likes you."
