hey guys! this is my first attempt at writing so please don't be too harsh :) hope you enjoy!

"good morning, sleepyhead! happy birthday!" my mum bursts into my room with the biggest smile on her face. she held a small box in her hand which she shoved into my hands.

"open it! open it!" she said excitedly and she sat and bounced on the end of my bed.

"right... okay! let me wake up for a second." i rubbed my eyes and stretched to give myself a fighting chance at even being able to see the box.

it was wrapped in plain brown paper with a red ribbon tied around. not much at a first glance, but as i finally woke up i remembered exactly what this was. i ripped the paper off hurriedly and opened the box to find a brand new phone with only one purpose, to tell me who my soulmate was.

my hands fumbled as i sat up and rushed to turn the device on, i could feel my mums excited eyes keeping a close watch on me as the screen flashed blue.

"let's hope they're not younger than you so that you can just get chatting!" she practically screamed at me.

a name popped up at the top of the screen.

"we'll that's not helpful! there's millions of people with the last name kim!" i said, dejected as i threw myself back down on the bed.

"not usually in scotland though" my mum still had hope that it would be easy to meet up when the time came "either that or you're going to have to travel somewhere! how fun!"

my dad finally entered the room, looking startled at all of the noise so early in the morning.

"you didn't wait for me! what's their last name? do you think you know them?" he bombarded me with questions and we began to fill him in on the details of the antics so far.

suddenly, a ping came from the device.

hey! i've been waiting for ages for this! how are you? happy birthday by the way!

"OH MY GOD THEIR FIRST WORDS!"

"didn't know i was going to have the opportunity to go deaf this morning" i stated, covering my ears. my parents didn't care as they skipped around the room with glee.

"DONT LOOK AT US, ANSWER THEM!"

i looked down at the phone, thinking of what to say to the person who i was destined to be with for the rest of my life.

hey! thank you so much! im great, excited to finally meet you. and you? how long have you been waiting for this?

im over the moon! i've been waiting for this moment for just over a year so im pretty stoked.

woah, over a year. i don't think i would have been able to wait that long if it was me. maybe i would have gone crazy.

my friend has a dog with your last name, any spaniels in your family?

double texting and funny? damn he really was made just for me!

berry
over a year??? i could never. ha! i wish, just humans unfortunately :( what's your family like? any siblings?

kim
yeah, one older sister, she doesn't live with me though. i guess you could call the seven guys i live with brothers ahaha, you?

berry
seven guys?? you're not one of those americans in a frat are you? nah, i'm an only child, it's nice but a bit too peaceful at times...

kim
i'd love to be an only child! i could use the peace and quiet. not a frat boy you'll be please to hear. i live in south korea so quite far off! i'm sorry i can't stay and chat longer, but i have to go to practise now. i'll message you later!

berry
no problem! bye for now!

practise? i'd have to ask him about that later...

"sooo? what are they like?" i'd completely forgotten that my parents were in the room.

"he's lovely! he said he was from south korea and had to go because of practice, i wonder what he does..."

"you'll find out soon enough my love, try not to rush things, remember me and your mum took 3 years to even meet. this is the start of the rest of your life, enjoy it!" he patted my head and turned out of the room, calling behind him that he's going to make my favourite breakfast, pancakes with bacon and maple syrup. yum!

my mum took that as a sign for her to also go downstairs and so she rose from my bed and skipped away, humming her current favourite song, stars and raindrops from seungmin of stray kids. she really was obsessed with him. not that i wasnt, it was me that made sure seungmin was also her bias in the group.
