Amber Freeman was reserved.
She was pegged as the life of the party, when in all reality, she was the most quiet and observant person that anyone could meet.In total, she had three friends.
Mindy. Chad. Tara.Mindy and Chad were twins, and the honest party goers. The association with the siblings had Amber titled as she was. That, and the fact that they practically begged her every weekend for a party at her home until it became almost routine.
Tara Carpenter was a dream, if your dream was an outgoing, optimistic, freakishly beautiful, doe-eyed brunette with an over the top sarcastic attitude for everything and everyone.
That was Amber's dream.Ten o'clock on the dot, every Friday night, there was a crowd of party goers inside of the large home on the large plot of land that Amber lived in. Her parents never caught on to the antics, but Amber was convinced that they wouldn't care even if they had by now. The tall brunette practically lived alone, her parents home maybe two days out of an entire week and they didn't pay much mind to the girl even when they were.
It was Friday.
Amber had invited her three friends over to her home to set up for the party, and of course, the only person who didn't bring a tag along was Mindy. The ring of the doorbell sounded and when Amber settled bowls of chips onto the counter to open the door, she was met with Tara, alone, almost.Wes Hicks was hovering behind Tara, much to Amber's dismay. Chad, Mindy, and Liv McKenzie, Chad's newest piece all made their way up the steps of the porch and inside.
"You know, I don't know why you invite us early to set up, every single time, everything is literally done when we get here." Mindy spoke, her eyes cocked to side-eye Amber and she almost scoffed. Instead, the back of Amber's hand tapped firmly into Mindy's stomach, not enough to actually hurt her, but enough to where all she had to say was, "whatever." and Mindy shut up effectively.
"Beer is down in the basement fridge, and I won't be going to get it." Amber's face scrunched up as she spoke, looking pointedly at Chad and Liv, leaning up against the kitchen counter, practically in each other's skin.
"Tara and I will grab it, yeah babe?" Wes piped, looking down at the shorter brown-haired girl who just nodded with a smile and at that, they dismissed themselves hand in hand down to the basement where Amber could only imagine what they'd be doing.
The thought of Tara just standing next to another human that close made Amber's skin crawl, but especially Wes. He didn't deserve the kind of person that Tara was, or what she had to offer. Her eye-lids dropped down into a glare at the door that closed behind them.
"You understand that neither of them can see you and neither of them would care..?" Mindy laughed, thinking that she was genuinely the funniest person to ever live.
"Mindy, you have to shut the fuck up at some point tonight.. or you need to pass me a bottle." Amber seethed, playfully, giving the curly-headed girl a nudge as they sat down at the island in the kitchen.
"Or, you could just try to talk to her-" Chad was cut off as Amber raised her hand up into the air, shutting him up. "That means you shut the fuck up too." She said, watching as he raised his arms into the air in defeat and retreated into a different room with Liv on his hip.
"He's right y'know? We literally all know how you feel about her, except for Tara. I mean, even Wes and he's got his head so far up her ass that he barely remembers to change his socks." Mindy continued, making Amber's hands clam up and she shook her head.
"Or you know, the jealousy ploy always works to help determine feelings. Just hang all over someone all night, share a kiss or two or three and if she gets upset, she will definitely bring it to either Liv or me." Amber wanted the girl to be quiet, she struggled enough to keep her own feelings at bay, since Freshman year when they all met. Mindy did not exactly help her situation as she was constantly pushing at Amber to talk to Tara about the feelings that she had for her.
"If I do this.." Amber was on the verge of throwing up, she already felt nervous and she was reeling to keep herself composed as she spoke.
"Will you do it with me.. will you kiss me tonight when I get too drunk?" She asked, watching Mindy's eyes light up like she'd just seen the Pope in full drag.
"Is that even a question? These things are what I'm good at, but if I do, she most certainly won't bring her jealousy to me, so we'll have to find Liv to get the juice." Amber nodded, her nerves settling at the comforting thought that it wouldn't be a stranger that she would have to use. Just Mindy. Mindy was her bestfriend. Mindy was safe.
