I was driving my Mercedes-Benz G-Class on my way to La Push library when a sms came into my phone.

"Accept a date, please just one date, you won't regret it. Malcom."

I didn't unlock the cell phone.
I looked back at the road as the rain blinded most of the way, I could tell I'm used to these roads, but the truth is due to my superhuman senses there was no hard road for me. This body has become accustomed to being able to do great things, such as climbing the Himalayas or traveling the Amazon River in all its fullness.
My family has always made me feel lucky for the life I have, giving me opportunities, advice and words of love.

The temperature was minus twenty-four degrees, but the warm blood that runs through my veins makes this place like any other, the cold does not make me cold and the heat does not stress me, my body is a war machine, my ancestors would be amazed with my creation, which happened thanks to them.
I study anthropology on the reservation, I specialize in local history, although since I was a little girl I have traveled all over the world, visiting all kinds of excavations and monuments to ancient gods.

I am a girl who prefers not to be the center of attention, something I inherited from my maternal grandmother, Isabella. Who is my best friend, sometimes I think I have more in common with her than with my own mother, but then I look in the mirror and there she is, smiling shyly at me.

A light behind me wakes me from my usual reverie, it's Malcom, he waves to me from his car to say hello, I stick my hand out the window and show him my middle finger, it's an affectionate way of greeting us, I stick my hand back in and dry my rain soaked hand with a towel I always carry under the seat, we enter the reserve and head south towards the library, Malcom and I do volunteer work before starting the double degree, it was my idea, he doesn't seem to care what to study or do, he follows in my footsteps since we met at school at age 5, no matter how hard I try to ask him or find out what he wants to do with his life, Malcom always manages to get his way, like when he decided to study the same degree as me and at the same university on the coast of Sicily.

In front of the library are the parking lots and I head to my usual spot; almost in a corner, hidden under a tree, so that the SUV offers a less conspicuous presence, Malcom parked at the same time on the right and almost as soon as I got out of my car an Audi S4, which was the car of my best friends and confidants; Claire and Jossie, appeared and parked in the also usual spot, both cars on either side of mine, they were my best friends and they were also my pack.

Claire and Jossie were twins, they came from the Quileute clan just like Malcom, so I didn't have to hide who I was or the abilities I possessed, but as much as I tried to get away from them and immerse myself in my books, more than they would harass me with calls and visits, I recognize they are good kids, they have never given up on me, but I.... I simply can't open up to them, I appreciate them, I just prefer to be alone. But it's impossible when you're the current Beta. The second leader of the pack.

- Mimi Auntie, you won't believe it, Jessie asked Peter out for a date to the ball, but he said yes. Isn't it amazing? Peter, Auntie Peter! - Claire was beside herself with excitement, Jossie was walking along with Claire, Malcolm and I, but she was walking backwards with little hops whenever she said something that made her excited again, you would think that walking backwards like that she could trip and fall, but in the case of my friends, whose blood is Quileute, the supernatural world has also given them a great balance.

- Peter Walker, captain of the soccer team and student president for the last two years, tell me Jossie, how exactly did you manage to ask him out? -My question had partly to do with the fact that I had the courage to ask someone out, having such a closed personality.

Although we already knew what was cooking in Jossie's mind, so she didn't say anything, I knew that look, I've been having it for eight years now, when my heart waged its first war.
