The sound of paw steps and smell of fresh prey filled the clearing. " Goldpaw, Nightpaw! " Eagleflight yelled. " Why were you gone for so long? I was so scared! " While Honeykit's mother was checking on her older siblings, she looked up at the highrock. Cinderstar stood atop the rocks, looking down at her clan with her chest puffed out. I wonder what it would be like to sit up there, ruling over my clan..

           Sunpaw was bouncing around in the clearing, his golden fur shining in the rising sun. As Honeykit heard from the warriors, his warrior ceremony was going to be tomorrow morning. Willowkit and Rosekit were playing with the other kits outside the nursery, as usual. " Eagleflight! " She heard Violetkit yell over sudden wailing. " Rosekit got a thorn in her paw! "

        Eagleflight was already over, as she had already heard Rosekit's screams. " I thought we got all these out of camp! " She exclaimed. " Swiftcloud! Rosekit got another thorn stuck in her pad! " Eagleflight continued to comfort her daughter. Swiftcloud, Darkclan's medicine cat, had grabbed his herbs and was there in an instant.

Honeykit was puzzled with all the sudden action. " Willowkit! Will she be okay? " She asked, nagging her sister. " Of course she will! I get thorns in my pads all the time, it didn't hurt a bit! " Willowkit boasted. Icekit was staring at them, and he looked annoyed. " Stop lying! You got hurt by a thorn one time, and you were crying so loud every warrior came out thinking Snowclan was attacking! " Willowkit's face went red, and she turned back to the scene.
