Rhoda entered into the room as I stood up from the mattress.
“Keyshia, we should leave for church now. The wedding ceremony would start
soon.” She said
“Yes, Rhoda.” I said smiling.
The church was beautifully decorated in blue and yellow. Adetokunbo was
already seated. I entered the church with my bridal train. Rhoda was my Chief
bride’s maid. I was very happy. This was another home for Jesus. For 7 years now,
God had kept me on the path of righteousness and now he had gifted me one of
his choicest sons to spend the rest of my life with. I really looked forward to
chasing ten thousand with Adetokunbo. I looked forward to all that God had for
us. I looked forward to more destruction to the devil’s kingdom. I looked forward
to raising Kingdom children that would bruise the devil’s head.
As I entered the church, I noticed a very familiar face. I kept staring as the lady
smiled at me. Wait! What! Modadeola! I had tried looking for her at University of
Ibadan. I enquired from a friend of hers that was a final year law student when I
was in 100level. She had told me that she had travelled to United States of
America a year after gaining admission into UI. I smiled at her as I walked towards
Adetokunbo.
Adetokunbo smiled broadly at me as we exchanged wedding vows. I was
certainly not the only happy one. We had waited so long for this day after getting
engaged a year earlier. We had built a very strong friendship over the years and I
looked forward to spending forever with my best friend. My mind was certainly
occupied with one more thing. Modadeola!
I hugged Modadeola as I stood beside the car that was to convey me to the venue
for the reception.
“Keyshia, you need to get back to the hotel to change.” Bukola, one of my bride
maids said to me
“Just a minute, Bukola.” I said. She left.“Modadoeola” I said as I hugged her again. She was carrying a baby and was also
with a boy of about 12 years old.
“Keyshia! How have you been?”
“Fine Adeola. It was certainly not easy but thank God.”
“So sorry about what happened. It was all mum’s negligence. She had mixed some
rat poison and didn’t know that she had contaminated the jollof rice in the bowl.
Dad was very angry with mum. We searched for you but we didn’t find you.”
“Adeola, it’s okay. I’ve forgotten all that now. God had a reason for everything.
How’s everyone?”
“They are fine. Mum developed cancer two years ago. She had a surgery though
and she’s a lot better already. Farayola is studying abroad. Dad is fine too”
“Oh, sorry about madam. God will perfect her healing in Jesus name. Is this
Naade?” I said pointing at the boy beside her.
“Yes” She said.
I hugged Naade. My little best friend was all grown up. I said a word of prayer for
him. Modadeola got married to a journalist two years earlier and she had a son
already.
“Adeola, there is a lot to talk about but my husband and I will be travelling to
Amsterdam tomorrow for our honeymoon but I will give you my number. We can
plan a get together when I get back.” I said smiling.
“Okay, no problem.”
I gave Adeola my number, hugged her and hurried into the car.

Mrs. Keyshia Shokayo, it’s the beginning of beginnings of wondrous things in your
life. You entered into the flames of fire that life took you through and you came
out refined and with confidence to face tomorrow. I thought as I looked at my
husband who was seated beside me in the plane.“Tighten your seat belts”
