*WREETTTCCHHH*
You might be wondering why I, 18 year old 5 ft 6 messy brown hair male 122 pounds green eyes 6inch length 1.5 inch girth beige pink and small feet with a terrible sea sickness would want to become a sailor. But it wasn't my love for the sea that brought me onto the Poh-Boy pirate ship, it was my longing, and what some might call, obsession, with the captain.
You see, Captain Art wasn't just the heroic leader of the biggest shrimp wrangling pirate ship at sea, he was also the most famous bachelor in all the lands. Everywhere the ship docks ladies flock to the ports to welcome him, he can't go to a pub without being hounded by lords and wealthy men offering their daughter's hand in marriage. Each and every city, each and every interaction, the Captain leaves a bachelor still. I always questioned why he would turn down such beautiful women with such wealthy families, but seeing him at sea made me understand that he was wedded to his profession. Each and every gust of wind that blows through his long onyx hair, my heart is more sure of my decision to devote my life to him.
I am not entirely sure where my obsession for this man started. Perhaps it goes back to where we first met, in Powher Boal village, at a small pub where many fisherman and villagers commune to drink after a long days of work. I was a simple bar maid, running around cleaning up after people. My small stature is rather feminine, which is the only reason why I believe I got the job. Men frequently said things rather inappropriate towards me, thinking I was a woman, they often corrected their mistakes after a closer look. One night, 2 years and 3 months ago, a couple of sailors too drunk to notice that I was a male, took the inappropriate comments to another level. They touched me, defiled me. I could not fight back, and no one else seemed to notice, no one else seemed to care. I braced myself and clenched and prepared for the worst, when suddenly a booming voice shouted behind me,
"SCALLAWAGS!"
The two men touching me were knocked to the floor and beaten to a pulp. When the tall man finished the one sided fight, he looked towards me with the kindest eyes you could imagine from a pirate. He leaned in close and grabbed my by the tonsils to pull me close,
"A whelp? Ye be quite cute fer a lad," He smiled at me and let go of my face. The distance between us grew and grew as he headed to the door of the tavern. I couldn't just let him get away, could I? He saved me. I certainly owe him. Alas, my fear of stepping out of my comfort zone got the best of me. The man left amidst the disarray of the tavern. My heart dropped. It felt like I had a pile of gold in my hands and I let it all drop through the parting of my fingers. I couldn't let the gold fall again. I simply couldn't. For the first time ever, I made a decision for myself. I chased after the man that made my heart pound.
It didn't take me long to catch up to him. He was on the pathway that leads to the sea. I panted, out of breath, as he turned to look at me,
"Whats this whelp? Did ye 'ave somethin' ye wanted t' say t' me?"
"I-I" I knew I wanted to speak but I couldn't get the words out. The truth is, I wanted to follow this man forever. This silly life I built working at the tavern was nothing but a lie. I was ready to throw it all away for this man, but my nerves got the best of me. I turned away, defeated by my own conscience. I began to walk back to town, back to the tavern with tears in my eyes and my face hot.
"Did ye wants t' join me crew? Why dont ye jus' ask"
I stopped in my tracks. Join his crew? Why would he want me, the lousy maid who looks like a woman when he's a man, the one who can't even stand up for himself.
"Ye could use a change aye? How about come be a part o' me crew." I turned around, the man had a welcoming look in his eyes, one that broke my defenses completely. Suddenly, the little I had holding me down in this village became nothing. My worries of starting anew became passing thoughts, override by the beautiful kindness of the man standing in front of me. That day, I devoted everything to Captain B.F. Art of the Poh Boy.
