"Tell me how the park is better than just saying home?" I asked, walking down a walkway, passing joggers and park-goers. Looking at the dogs and kids on the playground, taking it all in.
Kevin rolled his eyes, bumping into my shoulder playfully. "Oh, come on, it's a nice day" He took a deep breath of fresh air.
"Look at all this nature and that lake; isn't it nice?" He said, pointing to all the greenery and the lake.
My head turned to the lake, looking at the ducks and paddle boats in it.
I shrugged. "It's okay, but we could have seen this from our apartment." I looked at Kevin. "I just want you to know you're keeping me from work."
He giggled. "You didn't complain last night when I kept you from work."
"That was completely different, and I was off the clock."
He gave a coy smile. "You're off the clock now."
"Yeah, for another," I look down at my watch "40 minutes."
My husband took my hand, interlocking them with his hand. "Great, so we have 40 minutes to walk and talk."
I huffed. "Fine, but I'm going to get food from that cart," pointing to a hotdog stand. "Do you want anything?"
"No, thank you, I'm fine," He said.
"Are you sure?" raising my eyebrow, "I'm not giving you some of mine."
Kevin laughed. "Yes, I'm sure."
Nodding, I walked towards the hotdog stand.
"What can I get you?" The vendor asked with a smile.
"Can I have two hotdogs, one with mustard and ketchup and the other without?"
The vendor nodded in acknowledgment putting two hotdogs into the buns, squirting one with condiments and the other without.
Removing my card and sliding it into the reader, I returned it to my wallet. The vendor handed me my food, and I returned to Kevin sitting at a park bench watching the kids play.
I sat down beside him, studying his face. Finally, I nudged him softly. "You know, Kevin, people might call the cops if you keep staring at them."
"Huh?" he said, snapping out of his trance and looking at me.
My chin pointed towards the kids playing on the playground. "You were staring at the kids again," I said, giving him a smile and handing him the hotdog without any condiments.
Kevin took the hotdog and then gave me a sweet smile. "Thank you." He took a bite. "They're just so cute when they play."
My head turned to the playground, looking at all the kids. Some were going down the slide, others were on the swing, and a few were crying because they had to leave the park.
Kevin took another bite of his food, looking at the playground. Moving closer to his face, I looked into his eyes, trying to figure out where he was looking at. His eyes fell on a parent helping their little boy who fell on the ground.
Kevin turned to me, putting his hand on my lap. My eyes glanced from his hand to his eyes.
"I've been thinking," He started, "what if we–"
My hand shot up, stopping him.
"No;"
I knew exactly what he was about to ask. He's been hinting about it for the last year. I have been playing dumb, but I know what he's hinting at. At some point, he got bold and took us to a whole section dedicated to it.
