The resort was about an hour ride, but Abhimanyu was entering the large gates of the Goenka mansion just past half an hour, thanks to clear roads and him jumping almost every red light possible in his way.
Just as he parked his car, he heard some commotion and some arguments. He quickly ran toward the door but stopped in his tracks with surprise evident as he did not expect his mother to be there and what shocked him more was Akshara's new avatar.
He just stood there in silence trying to comprehend the situation, but his eyes were trained only on his Akshu. She was roaring like a Sherni and finally standing up for herself. The past 6 years had changed her for the better, even though her essence of values was still the same but she knew how to stand up against wrong, even if it was her family.
Even if he strongly wanted to argue about whatever she said about his mother, he just couldn't. In fact her curt and hurtful words were like a splash of water, awakening him from his deep sleep of a fairy mother, who was his first priority, always.
He was standing numb trying to grasp each and every word she said. He finally understood that a mother is just a human and not god, she is not always right, and like a human, she is entitled to make mistakes.
AB - Papa......
Abhimanyu came back from his reverie and looked up, his baby was running down the stairs. He was feeling overwhelmed listening to Abhir say Papa, but soon was consumed with sadness as he knew, Abhir was calling Abhinav and not him.
He just kept looking, as Abhinav stretched his arms out to engulf Abhir but soon was surprised as Abhir just ran past Abhinav and toward him while stretching his little arms to be carried by him.
Abhimanyu easily lifted Abhir up as he jumped on him for a tight hug. Abhimanyu left a deja vu, remembering Akshu's jump hugs, which portrayed her immense love and happiness. Even though he was confused by Abhir's gesture, he embraced him lovingly and again felt at peace.
But Abhir's next words shocked him and he quickly looked up at Akshara, whose eyes were tearing up and held so many emotions as she looked at the image before her, she once had dreamt years back.
AB - Papa....pa..pa...I missed.....you, please....don.. don't leave us....again.
As Abhir ran so fast, he was panting hard while he said those words and Abhimanyu was on high alert. He quickly sat on the sofa and pulled Abhir onto his lap, making him do breathing exercises to control his breath.
Abhir had latched himself onto him and refused to leave, which made him extremely happy but everyone else seemed confused and out of their wits.
M - Abhi beta, what are you doing here and where are Ruhi and Arohi?
ABHI - Ma, they are still at the resort. Don't worry they will come back by tomorrow as scheduled. I didn't want Ruhi to skip the fun. She was enjoying herself very much and I needed to be here, Abhir needs me.
Abhimanyu flatly answered while still looking at a drowsy Abhir, and he held him closer to himself to let him rest comfortably.
M - But beta, Ruhi needs her poppy to play, she will be sad now and you could have come at the scheduled time as this could have waited, he isn't that ill. Just now he ran as if he was at the Olympics.
Everyone just looked at her in disbelief. Abhimanyu could not believe his ears, is this the same compassionate mother he had worshiped for years?
ABHI - Ma, don't. I am still hanging on the thin tread of sanity I have felt so don't force me and please don't tell me where my priorities lie. I am first and foremost a doctor, so don't ever tell me to ignore a patient.
Abhimanyu said with finality while glaring at his mother to just stop talking. Akshara was somewhat relieved to see Abhi finally taking a stand against his mother.
NAV - Bhai ji, let me take Abhir upstairs. He is drowsing again from exhaustion and sorry, he called you papa out of nowhere. I guess he wasn't wearing his specs and saw it incorrectly.
Abhinav jabs, to dismiss any hopes Abhimanyu felt listening to the word Papa and moves closer to pick Abhir up in his arms, but Akshara comes in between them.
AK - No Mr. Abhinav, Abhir will feel uncomfortable as he is clutching Abhi tightly so let him be.
Akshara avoids commenting further as she has yet to tell Abhimanyu the truth and was just preparing herself for the drama that will ensue. Just then her phone pings with a message and she quickly pulled it up to read.
By now everyone had finally started to notice her body language and the way Akshara talked with Abhinav. They felt quite confused with the sudden change in her attitude, was it because she was stressed about Abhir's health?
Seeing everyone's confused faces, Abhinav goes near her and tries to touch her hand but she jerks away. This action enrages Abhinav and he holds her by her arm and jerks toward him. His grip was very strong and Akshara slightly winced in pain.
NAV - Akshara what are you doing, why are you acting like this? Don't you remember we are a married couple with a child? If you act like this then everyone will find out about your lie and they are all traditional people, they won't ever accept this move and won't ever believe you. So let's just get Abhir treated and go back to our world to never return back. This is for the best.
Abhinav whispers in her ears and instills a new fear in her mind. She actually didn't think about this possibility. She doesn't give a damm about what her so-called family will think, all she cared about was what will Abhimanyu think. Will he believe her, and not misunderstand?
The way she had behaved till now, did not give her high hopes and she actually had no idea how their relationship would progress after so much damage but she would not let her son suffer because of her wrong decisions.
With full force, she jerked Abhinav away and slapped him hard across his face. Everyone was stunned to see this. Abhimanyu instantly stood up and went to stand by Akshara, Abhir still in his arms, now sleeping peacefully.
AK - Mr. Abhinav, stay within your limits. I am in no mood to play house with you and don't worry, the fight is mine so I will handle the consequences. Don't you dare interfere in my family matters ever again.
She turns toward Muskan and asks her to take Abhir upstairs to his room and not allow anyone to go near him, not even Abhinav till she comes back. She then turns to look at Abhimanyu.
AK - Abhi.....manyu, I need to talk about Abhir.....I mean, to tell you about his condition, will you please come outside with me? This is not the best place to talk.
Abhimanyu just nods and walks out. He just keeps walking ahead mindlessly and finally stops when they reach the same spot where she had finally confessed her love. Both reminisce about the beautiful past they once shared.
After a few moments which felt like an eternity, Abhimanyu turns to face Akshara, his eyes bloodshot with anger and tears.
ABHI - Kyu...kyu Akshu, kyu.....
