It took me two hours to get out of that desert and I lost my way three times but I finally got out and made my way back home to Old Neighbor, the base of operations of The Wastelanders, the hitmen of New Orleans.
I avoided fighting multiple Bandits who made homes on the North side of the city by hiding in some old building that was falling apart, but I soon left when I saw a small yellow insignia of Silo and the numbers 77 painted underneath the insignia.
Rule one of The Wasteland, don't go near any Silo building because you either die or see horrors that you will never forget.
I always remember someone coming from Washington DC, hoping to make a trading post between us and The Foundation, a group of people who believe the ways of old, before the nukes fell.
Fucking idiots.
But I always remember him telling me this story of a Silo in the centre of Washington that was filled with puppets, no people, just small puppets that kids could put their hands in to make them do whatever, which sounds nice, but what BUNKER did was send one hundred parents and their kids, all under the age of ten.
Separated the parents from their kids, promising the parents a sort of holiday from the little brats, and when separated, killed them all in a room with automatic gun turrets targeting them.
The kids though, were having the time of their lives, no parents to boss them around, no school to attend, just an endless supply of candy and ice cream.
One month into the experiment though, kids started to become violently ill, probably due to all the sugar, and started throwing up, suffering from diarrhea and becoming nauseous.
Some of the smarter kids helped the most sick get better and became the de facto leaders and looked after the younger kids.
Eventually, people started growing up and having their own kids with people in the Silo, and eventually they received an email on the numerous private terminals that littered the Silo, from their parents, asking for them to come and meet them and how proud they were of them.
And they went, all happy and shit because mummy and daddy were proud of them for making something of themselves within the Silo, becoming doctors, nurses, teachers, all sorts of jobs.
But they were only greeted by gun turrets, fully locked and loaded, and pointed directly at them, raining bullets down upon them.
See, BUNKERS plan was to just have a Silo run by kids, to monitor the effects of inbreeding would do to them over countless generations.
And the email was sent by the one person who BUNKER saved in that chaos, the smartest person who would understand the BUNKER mission for the Silo, the true leader of that Silo.
After two hundred years and countless generations of people dying and leaving the kids to run the Silo, eventually, there was one kid who was smart, who didn't eat the sweets or cake, but decided to test it after seeing numerous people become sick within a short space of time.
This kid's name was Tommy, just an ordinary kid, but with an IQ of 210, making him the smartest person in the room, but he never let anyone know how smart he was, always playing it off that he was an idiot.
It wasn't until he turned ten when they ran a mandatory IQ test to determine how much school he would have to attend, all set up by BUNKER and they labelled him a genius.
So, he tested the sweets and cake and found that it had a drug in it called Cranium D, a drug BUNKER made especially for this Silo to make the kids idiots, so they would figure out the truth of what was going on.
Tommy decided to hack into one of the terminals, build a firewall so it couldn't be tracked and logged into the leaders database, and that is when he saw it all, the true plan of BUNKER.
See, Tommy was a genius, and with genius he could see only one way out of this situation, kill everyone before the cycle continued all over again.
And that's exactly what he did, murdered even man, woman, child and baby quickly and quietly, so not wake anyone and with brutal efficiency.
Once it was all done, a screen came down the mess hall where everyone eats, showing the face of a grey haired man, congratulating the person who passed the BUNKER test and this person was now ready to go out into the world and have the skills ready for what awaits them.
So Tommy got ready to leave, buried his friends outside the Silo, not before making puppets of everyone he killed, to remind him what he did and left them littered around the Silo in case one day he decided to return and join them.
But leaving the screen up with the old man speaking so his voice record echoes to anyone that is too close to this Silo, to let them know it was out of bounds.
The Foundation still went in there though and upon hearing and reading what happened through terminal entries and Tommy's journal, they were horrified at what happened, but left it all as it is so people are all aware of the atrocious behaviour of BUNKER and their stupid Silo's.
I have heard many more stories and BUNKER and the Silo's, but I shudder as I think of the horrors that lie await inside of them.
But I notice that the Bandits have now moved away from where I am so I can finally go home, to Old Neighbour.
