The house is unbelievably quiet without everyone, the leaves don't rustle and the wind doesn't whirl. White noise fills the atmosphere and my thoughts drift in. My thoughts tell me to run, to run further than home. My thoughts tell me my moms doing things she and I both know she shouldn't. My thoughts tell me that it wasn't my choice to be left behind but their intention to leave me behind. My thoughts whisper evil nothings.
Before I know it night falls and perishes and dawn had broken by the time they all have returned. The silence is broken and peace is restored by the rush of conversation.
"Alright guys clean up and get dressed in your black outfits." Asher yells through the house as he heads over to the fridge to grab a beer. The guys, except for Asher head to their room, Celeste heads to the girls bathroom and Meredith to the guys bathroom to take a shower.
"Not gonna shower?" I ask Rachel as she makes her way around me into the door.
"Does it look like I swam?" She says as she begins to take off her shirt.
"Close the door." She demands.
" Why didn't you swim?" I ask her.
"Just didn't feel like it I guess." She turns around and points at her back where a knot in her bikini top keeps her strapped in. I begin to untie the knot but I am distracted by what's underneath.
"Rachel what happened to your back?" I stop and back away to get a better look. Her back was bruised and scratched from the nape of her neck to the dimple at the bottom.
"Just untie the top." She demands bringing her hands to her back to try to do it herself.
"Not until you tell me what all this is?" I grab her shoulder and turn her around furiously but gently.
"Nothing, just a little accident." She wraps around herself trying to conceal her lower stomach. I forcefully remove both arms and place them to the side.
'Not so little." I say in shock.
"Let me go." Rachel forces herself out of my hold and nudges me aside.
"Ill take it off myself." She turns back around and slips the bikini top over her head.
"Rach," I say in a hush tone.
"Elora." She snarks.
"Do you hate me?" I don't think before I speak.
"No." She slips her bra straps over her shoulder and turns about around.
"Why?" She ask while finally looking at me in the eyes again. Her eyes were dangerous. They were rounded and each corner met at sharp points. Her large pupils were overwhelmed in deep green irises. They shifted as she thoughts. But right now standing in front of me her eyes had lost their intensity they were still and her pupils had shrunk.
"I hate me." I mumble breaking the eye contact.
"So do I." She mumbles back. The house uproars with sound but once again white noise consumes the air for a quick moment.
"Get up and change." She throws my backpack at me.
"You can't be intimidating in ladybug pajama pants." She continues as she heads out the door, without once glancing back at me.
"Alright I'll put on my Superman ones instead!" I yell off into the distance.
Right as the door shuts it reopens and the two other girls come in both in towels and hairs dripping on the carpet.
"Gosh the guys bathroom is disgusting." Meredith says.
"So then it was perfect for you." Celeste jokes.
