Omen Blackwood stood next to a towering oak tree, his dreadlocks pulled back into a tight ponytail. At 17 years old, he was already well-built and handsome, with piercing purple eyes that shone in the morning light.
He took a deep breath and gazed out at the sprawling landscape of Valoria, watching as the flying battle ships made of Kinetic Carbyne soared through the sky, powered by the Essence Core.As he looked out over the city, with its flashing lights and towering skyscrapers, Omen couldn't help but let out a sigh of restlessness,
"Man! When am I gonna have one of those Valorian Battleships? Just a bunch of lazy, senile old men driving them anyway. Since its wasted on them, I should have it."
"If I had one, I'd travel to Sylfane and pick up a few of those elf beauties, and eat in the most expensive restaurants, and no one's gonna kick me out cause I'm an orphan."
Omen gleed playfully.
But Omen's friskiness soon was short lived, and his face became completely serious,
"But I can't possibly get one right now......Not with my background and reputation."
Omen knew that while deep understanding of one's Essence was important, Valoria was a hereditary aristocracy, where social status and powerful connections were necessary for success.
After he was abandoned at NovaGen Medical Center, he had grown up in the slums, that are commonly referred to as "The Undercity," a world far removed from the bright lights and advanced technology above, constantly fighting to survive and provide for his family at the Fremen Orphanage.
Growing up in an orphanage was hard enough for Omen, but for him to also grow in the dangerous parts of the Under City was just fate's cruel joke.
He then remembers his days at the orphanage, 11 years ago.
•Flashing Back 11 years•
I was always bullied by the others in The Under City because of my dark skin color. No one would accept me and I was ridiculed without understanding why I was different. So I would at times, try to peel my own skin off, I didn't want to live like this anymore just because I was born different.
Whenever this would happen the most important woman in the world would comfort me.
Daisy Wilson, the Caretaker of our orphanage, my one and only mother, always told me this:
"Let no adversity discourage or divide you, don't let it ever break you down, because the world is a cruel, dark and lonely place. So for someone as special and gifted as you, my very strong child, must be brave, full of vigor and valor, always wear smile, even when it's tough and you don't know what to do. Lead by example, so that others can follow and see for themselves that even in a world like this, if we learn to love and care for one another, even a cruel, dark and lonely world like this one. Can be kind, bright and fulfilling. Be strong so that many more can see beauty and find happiness in this world.
Do you promise you won't hate yourself anymore, but love and lead others instead?"Omen only had one answer to his mother with teary eyes and a big smile on his face,
"I will Mom, I'll become stronger, and help people!"
As she as well, with teary eyes filled with happiness, Daisy replied,
"That's my Brave Leader! Go and rise above all adversity and obstacles that stands before you!"
•Flashing Forward 11 Years•
Omen reminisce to himself,
"Been a while since then, I'm all grown-up mom."
