Crossing the line

A week later, life at Beacon had resumed. Everyone was talking about the incident in Vale regarding team RWBY and a Grimm outbreak in the city. During Port's class one day, Lydia couldn't help but ask Blake about it. As fellow faunus, they got along well.

"Oh, that incident?" Blake looked away shyly. "It wasn't much. We sort of found ourselves in the midst of it."

"I heard that it was blamed on the White Fang after their base was discovered in that abandoned underground city you guys went to," Lydia whispered. "That can't be true, right? Why would they purposely lead Grimm to Vale, where other faunus are?"

"Between you and me, Lydia, it is true. Although it was an accident, their train opened the underground tunnel and allowed Grimm to reach the center of Vale."

"Oh no...!"

"Yeah, it's gonna look bad for, uh, them. This stays between us."

"Of course, Blakey~!"

Later that day, in Goodwitch's combat class, Y/N was bored out of his mind. Nobody chose him as a partner in combat out of fear. His teammates especially. Knowing he was a demon blessed by a demon god didn't make them want to challenge him in a fight, but that didn't stop Evelyn from being a tease. While two other students were dueling, she tickled his back with her tail.

"!" Y/N scowled at her. "Don't you dare."

"I'm not doing anything?" She played dumb, pulling her tail away. He looked at her for another few seconds, then refocused on the duel. Evelyn smirked and kept going.

Y/N didn't look at her again, not wanting Goodwitch to notice them goofing around. Instead, he zapped her with his magic. Evelyn flinched and left him alone.

"Jerk...!" She pouted. "I was only tickling you..."

"So you admit you were doing something? A tease and a liar?" Y/N questioned. She stuck her tongue out at him. Both of them perked up at the sound of Goodwitch's annoyed voice.

"Mr. Arc! This is the second time you've fallen asleep in class!"

"Uh? Oh, sorry!" Jaune apologized sheepishly.

"Tch. He's hopeless," Y/N scoffed with contempt. "A pitiful, weak-willed human. I wish I could smack some sense into him."

"Easy, racist," Evelyn poked his chest. "Those kind of comments get you in trouble."

"Mr. Arc, as punishment for your lack of attention you will duel with Y/N," Goodwitch declared. Jaune groaned while Y/N bore his fangs in a malevolent grin. Goodwitch wasn't heartless, though. "Because the gap between you is so large, I will allow the rest of your team to join you, Mr. Arc."

After all five contestants changed and equipped their gear, they stood in the arena in a face-off. The students were hyped up for team JNPR due to Pyrrha's presence. However, all of the faunus students were on Y/N's side. Recently, he looked more like his kin and he was generally kind to any faunus he met in Beacon. His pointed ears and fangs that were shown anytime he spoke made it much more clear that he was faunus. Before his mutation, he could've been easily mistaken as human.

As he stood before team JNPR, Y/N wore his white and red armor along with a helmet. For a weapon, he had a metal version of Red Death so it'd be allowed in duels. The energy blade was simply too lethal.

"The match between team JNPR and Y/N will begin in 3..." Goodwitch announced. "2..."

Y/N spun the Red Death replica in his hand. Jaune and Pyrrha raised their shields. Nora gripped her hammer with an excited grin. Ren sighed and took a crouching position.
