Shu Yan thought it was Feng Zeyu at first but turned out it was Hu Ruiyang. She turned to look at Hu Ruixue and, seeing the baffled look on her, it was obvious that she didn't know that Hu Ruiyang was coming either.
"I hope it's alright," smiled Hu Ruiyang. "Had I not overheard Xiao Xue on the phone, I'd have no idea you are moving today. I hope you didn't mind me inviting myself over."
"No, of course not. C'mon in." Shu Yan was a little surprised but she stepped aside and let him in. Anyone who was here was a guest. It's a happy day and there was no reason to turn anyone away.
Hu Ruiyang had just sat down when the doorbell rang again. It was Feng Zeyu this time. Both Lao Hu and Lin Hui looked surprised when they saw him. Lao Hu had always known that Shu Yan and Feng Zeyu knew each other and that he had saved her once. He recollected himself almost immediately. Lin Hui, on the other hand, was dazed for a long while.
She couldn't understand how Shu Yan would be associated with Feng Zeyu given that she has to drop her kids off and pick them up from school everyday and go to work on top of that.
"The rest of you already know each other. You haven't met these two new friends who have just arrived so let me introduce the two of them. This is Hu Ruiyang, brother of Hu Ruixue, and this is Feng Zeyu. He had helped out myself and my children in the past and arguably saved my life." Shu Yan stressed about Feng Zeyu.
Feng Zeyu gave Shu Yan a look. At most he had protected her for a period of time. How did that turned into saving her life?
Shu Yan did not look back at Feng Zeyu. She went back to her seat, picked up her wine glass and said solemnly, "I think you all have an idea by now but you are all nice folks and never asked me any difficult questions. My story is really quite simple. The man made some money and that had got to his head. He fell for a prettier and more cultured woman. I figured that there was no point in staying when one was looked down upon so I had a divorce. I got the two children and the savings. Truth was, my family believes that boys are everything so I know for sure that they will take every last penny that I have and give to my brothers knowing that I have money on me. I had no choice but to take my two children and settle down in City Nan. As a single mother with two children coming to City Nan, a strange town to me, I would not have what I have today if it wasn't for all of the help that you have given me. I won't say any more. Cheers."
"Now, don't say that. We should always help each other out," said Lao Hu as he picked up his wine glass.
All of the others shared some similar pleasantries and downed their wine and those who couldn't drink had soda instead.
Shu Yan poured another glass and toasted Wu Xiuyue and Lin Hui. "It was said that close neighbors are more precious than distant relatives. I am really closer to you two than my own siblings. I want to thank you for all of your help these last few months. I would not have been able to handle taking care of my kids and my business at the same time without the two of you. I won't even know how to repay you for that."
Having said that, she down her glass of wine again. Then, she turned toward the Boss Lady of the motel. "Things were really difficult for me back then. My landlord told me to move out immediately and I was having promotional activities at my shop at the same time. Then I also have my two kids to take care of. I really appreciate the two of you for letting me stay your place."
After she had toasted everybody else, she turned to Feng Zeyu. "Thank you so much for the other time. I can't image the danger that my children and I would face had you not been there for us. I have never had a chance to think you formally so I will toast to you today."
"It was you..." Feng Zeyu wanted to say that it was her who saved Duoduo first but Shu Yan didn't give him the chance to finish what he was saying before she clanked her glass against him and downed the fluid inside.
