There was a cottage at the far edge of the city. And on the roof of that said cottage, was a girl. Staring up at the night sky, which was beautifully lit with a wave of stars. It was 2:00 am. After countless attempts to sleep she gave up. And climbed to the roof to clear her mind. She was in love with her best friend. She was scared. She was scared that her feelings would ruin almost 8 years of friendship if her best friend knew. She didn't know what to do. The thought of losing her dear friend haunted her. But, she also wanted to tell her.
She pulled her phone out of her hoodie's pocket and opened the text messages between her and her best friend, she took a deep breath, it's now or never, she thought to herself. She began to type:
"Hey, Mara. I know it's late. And you probably won't see this until the morning. Honestly, I don't know how to say this. But I'm gonna try," she paused for a moment to take a glance back up at the sky, took another deep breath, and returned to the message, "Mara, I'm in love with you. I have been for a long time. I've been afraid to tell you. But, I decided now was a good time to let it off my chest. It's okay if you don't feel the same way. I hope this doesn't change too much between us," she hit send.
She looked back up at the sky and just stared for a moment. Feeling scared but slightly relieved she finally told her how she felt.
She climbed down from the roof, walked silently from her bedroom window to her bed, and went to sleep.

The next morning, she woke slowly to the sunlight that flooded her room. She rolled over and grabbed her phone off her nightstand. She saw the notification on her lock screen indicating Mara had both read and responded to her message from the night before.
Nervously, she unlocked her phone and went to the messages. Her nervousness slowly decreased as she read the message Mara had sent her.
"You're in love with me? You have no idea how long I've been waiting to hear those words come from you. Because honestly, Hailey, I've been in love with you since the moment I met you. I just never knew how to tell you. Maybe we should talk about this more? Tomorrow night at the cafe? You know as a date? Maybe?"
She smiled as she replied, "I'd love that."
