Three years ago.

"I don't see what you're crying about, really. You've always talked about going back to London"

"Not like this, V. I want to go back on my terms, when I feel strong enough"

"It is not a war front" Veronica replied her sister, rolling her eyes, while the latter pouted.

Keira's mother wanted her family to go back to their roots. Apparently, she had enough of the American lifestyle. Truly, Veronica couldn't see why Keira was fretting about being shipped back to the UK, it was where she grew up after all. Keira and Veronica had a very different upbringing. Keira was born in London, to an American father and a British mother.

Veronica on the other hand, was born in the United States, to the same father, and a Russian mother. What most people didn't know about Simone Reed was that she was of Russian heritage, with her birth name as Alsimonia Retsev. She emigrated to the States at the young age of twenty three and continued her career in modeling.

Two years after, she met an up and coming businessman who was working for the biggest advertising company at the time. Cue in a one night stand and some pillow talk, and she was pregnant, while he quit his job and opened up his own company.

Even though at the time, Simone had no idea the man was married with a son, she was still tagged as a home wrecker and a whore for deciding to keep the baby, regardless of how much of a setback it cost her career. Nevertheless, it turns out she chose wisely, seeing as her doctor made it clear that she could never have children again.

"I got you something by the way" Veronica voiced out, reaching into her backpack and pulling out a beautiful black journal, it had the engraving of Adams at the side, and it came with a matching pen.

"I'm never going to use this" Keira snorted, but proceeded to take the book anyway.

"You're spending two years there, I'm sure you'll find the time" The two girls were sitting side by side on the large bed in Keira's room, at the grand Adams mansion.

Much to Simone's dismay, Veronica had vehemently refused to live with a father who barely acknowledged her, and a step mother who hated her guts. Keira lived all the way in New York, while Veronica schooled at a far away boarding school, and lived with Simone in California during the holidays, a better arrangement. Keira moved to lay down on the bed, she put a pillow over her head and screamed into it, frustration coursing through her.

"You'll be fine, I promise" Veronica said to her sister, laying down and grasping her hand, while trying to blink the sympathy out of her eyes. It was clear Keira had bad memories of London, and Veronica never really got the full story.

"Spoken to Thomas yet?" The older sister asked after moments of silence. She was referring to Keira's boyfriend, Thomas Axwell.

He was the son of the Mayor of New York, and he was also a creep. Veronica and Thomas shared the same grade, but she had always believed there was something wrong with the boy, he was too put together.

Despite that, she never failed to notice the marks that adorned Keira's body, or the bruises that had varying colors. When she asked, Keira's defense was either that she injured herself, or that she got it from sex. Veronica never believed of course, she knew her sister was a virgin. But she also knew that if she got involved, it might ruin whatever foundation she was trying to build with Keira.

"No, I don't know what to say to him" Keira mumbled

"I'll talk to him"

"What will you say?" She asked her older sister, peeking out from the pillow she had over her face.

"Don't bother yourself with the details, I'll sort it out"

"Okay" Keira responded quietly.

"So, Cherwell College huh?" Veronica asked, referring to the school Keira would be attending in London. From what she had gathered, the school seemed like it was a place for only wealthy people.

"How do you think it will be like?" The younger sister questioned, feeling calm with Veronica's fingers circling her palm.

"I don't know. But what I do know is how well you're going to thrive there, how happy you'll be" Veronica said, beaming up at her sister with a wide smile.

"Yeah?" Keira asked nervously

"Of course, Keira, everyone is going to love you" She said to her, making the girl feel at ease finally. And the two sisters stayed on the bed together, smiling and laughing, talking about anything and everything.

They had no idea it would be the last time things would feel so easy, they had no idea it would be the last memory they would have of each other.
