It was 3 days later with sparse amounts of sleep that Victoria and James arrived in Linsten, one of the towns run by followers of the King’s Bane.
“Victoria, we’re here.”
Victoria wipes her tired eyes and says,
“Well, the search begins.”
They ride into town and find a bar.
“It wouldn’t hurt to stop for a drink, don’t you think Victoria?”
“And some food as well. I’m famished.”
They hold Geralt and William, put on their cloaks, rub a little dirt on their faces, and walk into the bar. The place is old but good enough for them.
“Hello, we would like 2 pints and some potato wedges please.” Said Victoria.
“Yes ma’am.” The bartender said.
***
“Alright how are you two paying?”
Victoria and James pat themselves down, looking for their pochettes, finding nothing.
They look at eachother at the same time.
“Shit.” They say at the same time.
“What, do you have no currency?” the bartender said, sounding annoyed.
“May we go to our horses and get our pochettes, sir?” Said Victoria.
“No, you absolutely cannot! We can’t trust you. What if you run off without paying?” the bartender said.
“Well then how will we pay?!” James says.
“With your life.” the bartender says
The bartender pulled out a knife.
James and Victoria back away quite a substantial amount. They are nearly half way across the bar when they’re done.
"What? Ya kids scared?"
"N-no sir."
"*I'll deal with him Victoria, just stay out of the way and don't get hurt, okay?*"
"*No-* James-"
The bartender lunged, barely missing James' right arm, getting the knife stuck in the wall.
"DAMMIT!"
"Out of tricks?"
"Nope"
The bartender lunges, not missing this time.

Time seems to slow.

James faintly hears Victoria yelling his name, followed by a bottle shattering, but is too disoriented to respond.  He takes what felt wrong in his abdomen out, not realizing it was the knife.  Blood soaks his shirt, James, having no clue what happened, feels his abdomen, no energy to be surprised, after fighting the bartender, to see blood covering his hand.
"JAMES! STAY WITH ME OKAY?!"
"What happened?"
"Nothing to worry about, now come on! We need to get to an inn or SOMETHING for fuck's sake!"
James didn't know what was happening, he was still on an adrenaline high, feeling no pain, no emotion, no nothing.

Everything fades to black.
