Hoseok and Soobin had been walking for hours, the sun now setting. Finding only an old abandoned store for shelter from the night, they squeezed inside a half-open small window at the back of the store."We should be okay to stay here for tonight," Hoseok whispered to Soobin, who clung to him in the darkness. "Are you okay?"
"Ye-yes!" Soobin squeaked. "It's just very dark."
"Maybe there is a light here, like a flashlight. Let's search, be careful not to break anything, okay?"
"Uh-huh," Soobin mumbled. Still not letting go of Hoseok.
Hoseok chuckled softly at the cuteness of the young boy.
"Don't worry, I'll take care of you."The store was small and seemed to be for general goods, mainly food items. Nothing electrical insight.
Soobin tugged on Hoseok's arm. "What about the store room? Maybe there's a flashlight for power outs there."
"Ah, you're right. They must have something."
Hoseok shoved the door, it creaked open slightly, pulling apart a few cobwebs that fell upon Hoseok's face. He cringed swatting them away, knowing instinctively what it was. Spiders we're one of his greatest nemeses. Pushing that thought aside he forced the door open fully, disturbing years' worth of dust that rushed up around them. Hoseok hugged soobin, covering the younger boy's face in his chest and allowing himself to take in the worst of it. Resulting in a coughing fit. When the dust storm finally settled he let Soobin go.
"Are..you...Okay?" He asked between coughs.
"Yes, but are you okay?"
"I'll be fine."
The boys felt around through the darkness, buying into objects.
"Hoseok!" Soobin squealed. "I found something, I think it's a flashlight."
"Try it out."
Soobin ran his fingers around the object, he found a bump that could be a button and pushed it. The object lit up, it did not light up too much of the room but it was just enough for them to see something at least.
"Oh, good job!" Hoseok sighed.
Soobin grinned. He held the flashlight tight, scanning the room. "will we sleep here, Hoseok?"
"Yes, seems there is enough space for the two of us. Nothing comfortable to lay on though."
"Oh, that's alright." shrugged Soobin. "As long as we are together. Can I keep the light on?"
Hoseok patted Soobin's head. "Sure."
When Hoseok awoke, he felt relief that his headache had subsided. He gently rubbed his temple and winced. He was bruised but as long as he was not in constant pain, he felt fine. Sunlight poured through the open storeroom door, he rubbed the sleep from his eyes.
Soobin was still fast asleep, hugging his flashlight. Hoseok smiled at his adorable new friend, wondering what could have happened to cause him to run from his family. It was then that Hoaeok noticed something on the ground beside Soobin's head. A needle!"Shit!" Hoseok gently picked it up and tossed it into a small bin, there were more needles and syringes and even pill packets inside it.
"Oh no no no! Soobin, wake up. We have to go now!""Okay." Soobin croaked awake.
Hoseok knew what this meant, it was clear this place was used as a drug's den. He didn't know if it was still being used but, he did not want to stay to find out.
By midday, Hoseok and Soobin had found their way to a small village, which at first glance seemed to inhabit nobody. Their stomachs were aching from hunger and thirst but, with no money finding food will not be easy. Hoseok scolded himself silently for not thinking to grab any food from the store they had slept in.
"Hoseok," Soobin grumbled. "I need to rest a little."
Hoseok nodded. "Alright, I'm going to try a few shops and ask for some food for us. Maybe they can give us some out-of-date food."
In front of a tiny shop, Hoseok spotted an old wooden bench. "Soobin, you rest here and wait for me."
"Okay." Soobin slumped gladly onto the bench closing his eyes. It wasn't the most comfortable of seats but his legs were happy for the rest. He sighed as a gentle warm breeze rushed through his hair and across his cheeks. Even though he was exhausted he felt calm and happy. He had no idea where they were heading but, as long as he was with Hoseok he felt safe. Finally in the company of someone that truly cares for him.
Deep in his relaxed thoughts, Soobin had not heard the footsteps that stopped beside him, clueless to the danger that was right in front of him until arms grabbed at him and lifted him. A cloth or a scarf, he could not tell which, was tied around his head covering his eyes. He was placed over someone's shoulder as they ran with him.
Fear gripped his heart. "Hoseok!" He screamed as loud as he could, straining his throat so much his voice wavered and omitted a tiny squeak at the end.
Suddenly he was thrown to the floor where his head smacked onto the pavement instantly knocking him unconscious.Inside the dingy claustrophobic store, Hoseok quickly made his way to the back of the building, where the counter was placed. Behind the register stood a tiny kind-faced old man. He smiled gently at Hoseok.
"Hello, young man. How can I help you?"
Hoseok smiled back. He was about to ask about food when he noticed beside the till was a telephone.
Of course! He grimaced at the fact he had forgotten the position he was in. He was kidnapped after all!
"Could I please use your phone sir?"
The kind man nodded. "Yes, you can, have you lost your way.?"
"Uh-huh, yes. I don't even know where I am."
The man replied informing him of his location. However, Hoseok did not catch what the man told him as at that moment he heard someone scream his name. And it sounded like Soobin.
Hoseok bolted from the shop. Outside he saw no one at all.
"No no no! SOOBIN!" He called. No replay came. Hoseok fell to his knees and noticed on the pavement right in front of him, was a pool of blood. He tried to get up but was held down. He looked up into the eyes of an unfamiliar man, who seemed to be around Hoseok's age. He wore a black cap and a face mask.
Hoseok pushed him away springing to his feet. Then he was grabbed from behind, his arms pressed down at his sides."If you want your little friend back." Said the man facing Hoseok. "You should come with us quietly."
Hoseok could tell this man was not playing around. This was serious and he could do nothing but comply. He nodded curtly and allowed himself to be taken away. Kidnapped once again, but he remained calm. He had to save Soobin nothing was more important at that moment.
