The Library

I had just left the hotel room after I had talked with Archie. I was on my way to the library yet again. One of the best things about working at the library was that you got to walk to work through the magical botanic gardens and home from work on the cosy, lit up streets of The Blue Grand Palace everyday.

The gardens contained all types of blue flowers, my favourite were the bluebells, but they were all pretty in their own way.

I climbed up the gigantic marble steps leading up to the massive, silver birch door of the library. The statue that stood upon the roof of the library gleamed in the sunlight. It truly was a beautiful sight. The statue was in the shape of a blue eye and the blue part of it was made up of sapphire which made the statue glimmer in the sunlight. The funny thing was, the statue had the exact same sapphire colour of eyes as I did.

I approached the big, golden door knocker. Once I had pushed the big doors open I quietly entered the almost never ending room of the library. Even after three years of working there the large variety of books lining the big wooden shelves never failed to amaze me. In the middle of the library there was a big silver birch table where everyone in the library met in the morning. Inside the library was gigantic. There were two sets of marble staircases leading up to the many floors of it and the hundreds of corridors lining the building went on forever. There were six floors in the library. Each one lined with large balconies.

As I walked into the room I heard a loud scream coming from one of the spiral staircases.

"Hey, Antoinette", said a girl's voice. "Glad you've finally decided to show up."

I looked up and saw Arabella, one of my colleagues and bestfriends.

"Hi, you're up early", I said.

She laughed and ran down the long, marble staircase. As she ran I could see her auburn, curly hair blowing into her light blue eyes.

"I thought I'd try and get in earlier than you for once!", she said.

I laughed and then screamed because someone had just grabbed my shoulder. I turned around and saw the smirking face of my other colleague and best friend Luca.

He laughed. "Ha, I managed to scare you for once!", he said.

That was true. He had never managed to scare me until that moment.

"Hi Luca", I said. "Are you ok today?

Unfortunately Luca did not have the best life at home. He tried to spend most of his time in the library. His two roommates, Killian and Rune, (or as Bella likes to call them, Plonker 1 and Plonker 2), abused him. They were both the same age but Luca was about three years younger than them. Everyday when he got home, if he did not earn enough Aurum from the library, they beated him. They were gold diggers. I saw them once but never again. They came to the library once and tried to get Luca to start working at the zeppelin manufacturer because they had a larger salary there, but Aubrey wouldn't allow it because Luca "had a contract with the library". He didn't but Aubrey knew about the two bullies that he lived with. When I saw them, I immediately could tell that they were bullies. They both wore clothes that they had obviously ripped and torn and their shoes looked to be as hard as metal. Their hair looked as though it hadn't been cut ever and that it had been bleached, for it was as white as the cleaning product that Archie used in the sink back at the hotel, and only one of their eyes could be seen. I had never seen two individuals look so dull and rough in my life!

Luca walked in to work with a bruised nose or a burst lip a lot of the time. When he was seven and his roommates were ten, they tried to kill him by throwing rocks at him. The only reason why they didn't kill him was because they wanted to use him for getting them more money. To think that ten year olds already knew about the role of money! They didn't kill him with the rocks but they did hit his eye and left him with a permanent twitch in his left eye. I didn't think the twitch bothered him, but if it did, he would never say.
