Double update,
Oh and I really love Jennie as a redhead (the orange hair I think? So, expect her having it in this whole book.)

Lisa shifted the bag further up her shoulder as she stepped into the elevator. It had been a long day at work, and she was glad to finally be home. She figured she had just enough energy left to get up to her floor, make her way into her apartment, and crash onto the couch.

“Hold it, please!” a voice called out all of a sudden.

Lisa didn’t want to hold the elevator. She wanted to keep the elevator for herself. But there were already so many dickheads in the world, and she loathed people that didn’t hold the elevator for her when she needed them to. So, with a sigh, she put her hand in front of the sensor to keep the doors from sliding closed.

She managed to flash a brief smile at the redhead who stepped into the elevator, giving her a breathless ‘thank you’ with her radiant gummy smile as the doors now slid closed. Lisa had seen her around the complex from time to time. “Which floor?”

“Third,” the woman smiled. “Same as you.”

The fact that this woman knew where Lisa lived was a little weird. Or maybe it wasn’t, and Lisa was just shit about keeping track of her neighbors. Truth be told, she probably wouldn’t even know if this woman lived right next door from her.

Okay, no, she’d have noticed that much.

The elevator finally rocked into movement, and Lisa watched the indicator over the door switching from a 1 to a 2. She cursed loudly when it jolted to a sudden stop and the lights flickered out, throwing them into complete darkness.

Two seconds later, back-up lights sprang on, bathing them in a weird orange light. “This is fucking bullshit,” Lisa groaned, slamming her hand against the door. “Hey! Hey, the elevator’s broken!”

“Looks like the power went out,” the other woman sighed. Lisa watched as she moved over to the button on the side of the panel - the big red emergency button that would allow them to call someone to help them out - and pressed it.

Nothing.

“Who the fuck designs an emergency button that doesn’t work when the power goes out?” Lisa groaned.
