❥ It wasn't too late when Wes and Kira made it home. Their mom was already home, making a grocery list. "Hey, kiddos! How was your hang out with your friends?" She asked upon seeing them enter.

"It was good, Mom." Kira smiled and walked over, hugging the woman.

Wes stayed by the door, the twin that didn't care for affection as much. "What's for dinner?" He asked softly, looking for music to listen to on his phone.

"Sushi. I was just heading to pick it up along with some groceries." Judy said as she walked and grabbed her purse.

"Hey, Mom?" Kira stopped the woman by the door and smiled a little. "There's this project coming up in science? About uh.. DNA and we have to do this family tree-like thing." She mentioned.

Judy's smile threatened to fall. "Okay.." She said in a soft voice. "And?"

"And.. Wes and I don't really wanna be those kids that put unknown for their father's side.." Kira explained as least awkwardly as she could.

Judy's smile fell fully now and she swallowed. "Well, I'm sorry but you will have to. You know I don't like talking about your father.."

"We know, Mom. But we don't wanna get laughed at." Wes tried to explain as he walked over to the woman.

Kira watched how her mother nervously adjusted her purse on her shoulder. "Is everything okay?"

"Everything's fine. I'll uhm... I'll see what I can do. Maybe just put Dewey? He's more of a father figure than anyone.." Judy replied.

Wes and Kira shared a look before the boy spoke for them, "Mom, you know the kind of rumors that would start? Just tell us our Dad's name."

The older woman clenched her jaw before shaking her head. "I.. I will when I get back with the food. Okay?"

Wes was about to snap and Kira could tell. It was frustrating for them—to grow up with their mother refusing to tell them about their father.

"Okay, Mom. Love you." She hugged the woman and headed for the stairs.

"Love you too. You two stay here and keep the doors locked okay?" She turned to them as she looked at her twins with soft eyes "You two are just so cute." She gushed.

Wes rolled his eyes. "Bye, Mom. Love you." He said, heading for the stairs so he could take a shower.

Kira went to her room and sat down on the bed, humming quietly as she thought to herself about the project. Within a few moments, she could hear her mother's car driving away and the shower start.

The girl picked up her phone, staring at the screen. A notification from Chad.. 'Want to sneak out tonight? I have a surprise.' It read.

Kira smiled to herself and thought before replying with a quick sure. He wanted to hang out with her. It could be fun.

She stood and went to her closet to find a nice outfit even though she assumed Chad was inviting the whole group, she didn't want to look underdressed. Her phone began to ring.

Kira turned to see her mother's contact. She smiled and answered. "Yes, Mom. We locked all the doors and-" She began to explain before hearing her mother's distressed voice.

"Baby listen to me right now! You and Wes are in danger! I need you to get your brother and get as far away from the house as you can!" Judy screamed into the phone, crying.
