Character Evaluation: Leo Valdez

Leo Valdez

I just love Leo.
He's one of the bravest and realistic characters in the series, in my opinion. He knows how to do the right thing most of the time. He takes good care of his buddies. He knew he had to sacrifice himself (kinda) to defeat Gaea.
But, as every character should, he has problems. Here's a list.
•his mother died when he was eight (i think eight)
•he was blamed for it
•Aunt Rosa kicked him out of her house
•ran away from every home he had
•never got to grieve properly for his mother
•didn't fit in at CHB
•thought the fire power was a curse
•mechanical dragon broke
•never fit in with the Seven
•blamed for blowing up New Rome
•Seventh Wheel
•he cracked the fortune cookie and caused percabeth to fall into Tartarus and got depressed because he knew it was his thought
•never taken seriously, though he does great things.
And he does have many good things about him:
•he tries hard to be confident
•he's creative
•he can build stuff
•he's outgoing
•he's brave
•he's friendly
•he's sassy

I may have missed some things. I got like five hours of sleep last night because I stayed up reading Solangelo and Malec fluff.
Anyway, Leo is one of the most complex characters I've ever read, the most complex being Alexander Lightwood. *cries because Alec and Leo would be a perfect couple*
He is a paradox- he wants to try and fit in, to be like the rest, but he's too scared to try because of the chance he'd get rejected. OMG JUST LIKE NICO JEJIEJEDBKJW. *CRIES BECAUSE LEO AND NICO WOULD BE A PERFECT COUPLE TOO*
Sorry, I had a fit.
So, Leo tries to be confident and funny so he'll fit in, but the hurt of the past has to catch up with him someday.
However, there's one thing I didn't really like:
When he got off of Calypso's island, he channeled all of his angst into his relationship with her and worrying if he'd ever see her again. The thing is, he never really confronted his feelings of never fitting in, at least in any way the reader sees.
It kind of annoyed me, but Leo is still my second favorite HoO character. (Behind Nico)
