Chapter II Then Some

I must've woken up in the middle of the night because it was pitch black and my house was so quiet. You could've heard ants crawling. I turned my light on and looked around my room. My room was ancient, the pancakes just from yesterday had fungus growing on them, and my furniture was torn, ruined.

There were spiderwebs everywhere and almost everything was broken. I got up and looked at myself in my broken mirror. I looked exactly the same as I did yesterday, or so as I thought was yesterday. I got up and went to the living room and found my parents and my little brother, dead.

They were gut and skinned. I gagged and started crying. I was sobbing so hard my chest hurt. Then I puked. I was crying and puking everywhere.

I managed to find the strength and left the room. I wiped my tears and went to look outside. It was ruined. Everything was dead, destroyed, it looked like the end of the world. Something out there saw me and started running toward my house.

I panicked, I didn't know what to do and I was scared. I ran to the kitchen, grabbed a knife and his in a kitchen cupboard that was barely big enough for me to fit in. I heard windows shatter, and a pitter patter of claws. I opened the door enough so I could see, and the thing was never anything I've ever read or heard about in my entire life.

It was the size of a recliner. Half of it had ruffed up fur and the other was nothing but flesh. It had five long legs and long claws. It had a rattlesnakes' tail and had the ears of a wolf, and teeth of a shark.

My breath was low and quivering and I could barely keep my grip on the knife. It first went into the living room and I heard stuff squish and gnawing and everything. I didn't think much of it until I saw I saw my father's head be flung to the side into my view.

I started crying again, knowing it was eating my parents, even though they were already dead it still killed me a bit inside.

I tried not to think about it and stifled my sobs. It went to my bedroom and started sniffing around, then to my parents bedroom and sniffed there. I just remembered how my family wasn't there, they were gone. I was only 14 and I was by myself. I missed then so much already.

Forcing myself to knock it off and focus on not getting caught by the mutant thing, I saw that it had morphed into my mother. I didn't even know if I saw it right but it did. I actually believed it was my mother for a split second.

"Elizabeth, honey where are you?" It sounded like my mother too. The tears came once again, me thinking my mother wasn't actually dead and I almost ran out. Remembering what it was I kept watching, staying in the cupboard. It was walking around--looking for me.

"Come out honey, I know you're hear," it said, it's voice became distorted and angry after. "You better get your a-- out hear Elizabeth." It started throwing tables and such, searching through everything.

I had to get out of here. I had the opportunity when it went downstairs. As soon as I heard it was down already I walked as fast as I could, knowing if I ran I would make too much noise. I went out through the hole It made when it came in and ran.

I didn't know where I was going but I just ran. I kept running when I couldn't breathe anymore. I couldn't stop. I was terrified and everywhere I looked it was just another nightmare.

After a while it was nightfall, and I found a barn I could sleep in. I cried, trying to fall asleep but I couldn't. I closed my eyes, hoping this nightmare would just go away.

"I can help you understand." I jumped up and looked around. "Who's there?" I asked into the darkness. I saw a faint silhouette standing about 15 feet in front of me, not saying a word.

"I'm just like you," it said.
"What?" I asked.
"Let me explain," and the last thing I saw was the entrance of the barn.
