Warnings: Brain trauma and doctor stuff (not in detail)
Summary: House is on to Y/N and basically gets them to confess their feelings
One day, in the middle of a discussion about a difficult case, Y/N suddenly realized that House was staring at them. Immediately they felt themselves blush and quickly looked away, feeling embarrassed. House raised an eyebrow and asked calmly "Do you have something to say?" Y/N froze for what seemed like hours before finally stammering out their thoughts on the patient's diagnosis hoping House didn't notice they was having a romantic daydream. To Y/N's surprise, House nodded his head in agreement.
House then turned to the rest of the team and said "Y/N is absolutely right. Now let's get to work." Everyone was taken aback - rarely did House ever agree with anyone so quickly... After that moment, it seemed like something had shifted between Y/N and House. There were more moments where their eyes would lock, and House seemed to have a newfound appreciation for Y/N's work.
After a while, of Y/N's daydreaming in the middle of team discussions, one particular discussion while Y/N was doing such House looked them in the eyes and stopped the team's discussion completely. "Y/N, I'd like to see you in my office for a moment please? Everyone else you can stay here.. we'll be right back" Y/N broke out of their gaze and daydream and were immediately nervous and filled with worry.
The dread inside them grew as they followed House to the office. House was always known for having an icy stare and a less than welcoming attitude. Opening the door to his office, Y/N prepared themselves for whatever was about to come next. But instead of being confronted with an angry boss, they found themselves in a surprisingly warm office that looked more like someone's living room.
House sat down in the chair across from Y/N and smiled, a gesture Y/N had never seen from him before. "Sit," House said , gesturing to the empty chair next to him.
Y/N nervously complied, not knowing what was about to come out of their boss's mouth.
"I called you here because.. I know Y/N." House said with the biggest devious smirk on his face, he saw the way Y/N always looked at him. He saw that Y/N was always daydreaming while staring in his direction. He just wanted to get Y/N to admit it. Admit they had the biggest crush on their own boss. House wasn't going to say it, but he was going to make damn sure Y/N would. "Y-you know what?" Y/N asked nervously, their cheeks burning red. House chuckled and shook his head in amusement.
"Oh don't act like it isn't obvious," House said "I'm not going to tell you what I know, you are" he sated this so proudly, he seemed amused seeing Y/N this nervous.
Y/N gulped, feeling so embarrassed and exposed. They weren't sure what to say. They looked away from House, trying to find the courage to admit the truth. When their gaze eventually settled back on him they spoke with a soft but slightly shaky voice "I-I may haves feelings for you..." they said looking down at their hands which were now more shaky.
House's smirk widened even more, he was clearly satisfied with the desired result. His eyes glimmered mischievously as he moved closer to Y/N, making them look up at him once again "I'm glad you admitted it" He said "Now that I know your secret, what are you going to do about it?".
Y/N's heart fluttered, they felt like they were going to faint. They wanted to reach out and kiss their boss but at the same time they had no idea how House would react. Part of them wished that House would make the first move so they didn't have to face any rejection if things didn't go as planned. But another part of them wanted to take charge and show House how he really felt. In the end they did neither and simply stayed there in a state of confusion, their hands shaking from anticipation.
House seemed to be amused by Y/N's hesitance and finally broke the silence "Well, I can see you're not sure what to do" he smirked. Y/N looked even more nervous. "If you really feel that way, then why don't you take the initiative and show me?" House suggested, his eyes gentle but still mischievous.
Y/N's heart raced as they slowly leaned forward, their gaze never leaving House's face. Their lips brushed against House's softly in a gentle kiss before finally pulling away with a smile. House seemed taken aback but pleased, his face turning bright red while his lips curved into a small smile.
They ended up spending the rest of the evening talking and exchanging stories until eventually it was time for Y/N to check out. As they made thier way out of the hospital, they couldn't help but feel a twinge of sadness that this perfect moment had to end so soon.
But before they could turn away completely, House grabbed their arm and looked into their eyes with a sparkle in his own.
"Stay," he said quietly, the unspoken invitation plain in those two syllables. Y/N couldn't help but feel themselves drawn towards House's warmth and strength, and with a silent nod of agreement. House rarely ever wants to stay at the hospital past 6:00, but this time, he seemed ready to make an exception.
The two of them stood there in the lobby, basking in their own little world. House had taken a step closer to Y/N and was now standing just inches away from them, an invisible aura connecting the two of them together that made speaking unnecessary. Suddenly Y/N felt their heart quicken with anticipation as House leaned in close, their eyes locked in a steady gaze.
Just as Y/N was about to feel the warmth of House's lips on their own, they were interrupted by the sound of a loud beeping coming from House's pocket. The noise seemed to break whatever enchantment that had been cast on them and they both stepped back, startled out of their trance.
House reached into his pocket and pulled out a device that was emitting the sound. He frowned, tapping the small screen before putting it back in his pocket. "It seems the patient just had a seizure, lets go" They walked into the elevator together, House leaning on his cane and looking Y/N in the eyes with a smirk purposely making them blush.
The rest of the ride was a blur until they reached the patient's room. Once inside, they both got to work, Y/N monitoring vitals while House checked for any changes in the patient's brain activity. As Y/N watched House worked his magic on the equipment,(well maybe not his magic but ordering Chase and Foreman to do the work) they couldn't help but admire how attentive he was as a doctor. Though he would never admit it or show it. He stood by the idea that he believed its better to separate emotions and patients from work. The idea is "If you seem to not really care and just don't let them die, then you're doing your job."
Hours passed and after a thorough scan, House finally concluded that the patient had suffered an aneurysm. Fortunately, it hadn't killed her yet but had caused severe brain trauma. There was still hope of a full recovery if they could act quickly enough. They worked around the clock to treat the patient and managed to save her life with only slight scarring on her brain.
