When they arrived at the fifth floor, the three had already made the decision to go with their dumbest yet best plan - shutting down their electricity. Sure, it wasn't the most... intellectual plan, but now that the guards had seen them, they most definitely did not have time to go to the lab, so this plan was their best shot.
The fifth floor was relatively clear, aside from the two or three guards they had spotted along the corridors, whom the three had easily slinked past.
They soon arrived outside the electrical room. Once again, they really owed it to Jeongin, since he was the one who told them where the electrical room was.
The door was locked, as expected. Chan picked the lock again, and the grey door clicked open. Jisung peeked inside, signalling for the other two to proceed.
SKZ's electrical room was... unimpressed, frankly. At the side of the room stood a large cylindrical power plant, a long tube stretching out of it, disappearing into the ceiling. Beside that were two big grey power boxes, supposedly filled with wires and switches.
Chan stepped forward and inspected the power plant closely. "Under the pipe on the floor..." Jisung could hear him mutter. A clack echoed in the room when the leader pushed on the small button located underneath a thick pipe on the floor. The soft buzzing in the room stopped as the power plant stopped running.
"Next, electrical boxes," Chan mumbled, checking off the list in his head. Jisung watched as he scrambled over to the power boxes and stuck his hand behind it. Chan's hands fumbled a little, before a soft click was heard, followed by the clang of the door springing open. Jisung moved over to the other power box, pressing the code on the buttons at the back. Inspecting the yellow-white interior of the box, he flicked all the switches off, and so did Chan. The red and yellow LEDs flickered a little, before going dark.
The room was now pitch black, and nothing could be seen, except for the soft glow of moonlight shining through the dusty glass on the window pane. Jisung's eyes swept across the darkness, making sure that all of the switches were off. Check.
Changbin tapped his shoulder, and thumbed the exit, or rather, the entry, for there was only one door. They slipped out into the corridor again.
Jisung knew where they were going, since Chan had run the plan through his head five times before. Lee Know's office. Or room. Probably a mix of those, since the son of the mafia boss couldn't be that old. Or maybe he was just a boring, stuck up rich kid.
It was risky. They were sneaking into the mafia boss' son's room, after all. He was like the second most important person in the HQ. Which also meant he probably held on to most of the more important documents as The Dragon only directed things from behind the scenes.
The two followed Chan through the snaking hallways, stopping in front of a door with a plaque attached on the top, which read 'Lee Know'. Below that was a line of small black lettering, saying 'Do not enter without express permission'. They definitely did not have express permission, but oh well.
It was surprising how little security there was. The only thing was a small black keypad attached beside the door. Jisung could vividly remember Chan giving an entire presentation about the keypad, complete with powerpoint slides. "It might look difficult to open, but it is actually very easy to hack into. All you need to do is..." Chan had said, then proceeded to give an in-depth theory and history of the making of the keypad, which Jisung did not take in at all. It was one of the few times where his 'job' felt as boring as a college lecture.
All he took in was the fact that there were little barely-visible dots on the screen of the keypad, as the inventor kept forgetting the password and had to make an entire code system so he would not have to break the keypad every time.
Changbin leaned over the keypad and typed in six random numbers. 123456. The screen flashed red and- there it was. Six small, black dots on the top of the screen. The code in mind, Jisung leaned over Changbin's shoulder. "03...2...5...18" he mumbled as Changbin punched in the numbers.
There was no indication that the door had opened, not even a small clack. The screen flashes red once again, but that was another feature of this lock. It was made so that even if someone got the code correct, they would still think they got it wrong, and will try another code, thus locking the door again.
Now you must be wondering - how is this working? Hasn't the electricity been shut down? Well, the answer is that there is a battery installed in the keypad, so it did not need electricity from the power plant.
Changbin placed a cautious hand on the door handle, pushing it down softly, allowing the door to open slowly. "They're there!" Jisung heard a shout from behind him. He whipped around.
A hooded man about 60 feet away was pointing at them, his body turned sideways to yell to something behind him. "They saw us," he hissed to the two beside him. "Dang," Changbin sighed, wrenching the door open and pulling them in, before slamming it shut again. He dragged a table over and pushed it against the door. "Extra precaution," Changbin told Chan.
They then proceeded to wreck the entirety of Lee Know's office. As Jisung's eyes swept across the table, stopping at the sight of a pile of papers by the side of the table. Were they... worksheets? He scrambled over, letting the papers in his hand fall to the ground. Lee Know was a student? A student mafia boss with so many members? Well, that was what Chan did, but they only had three members with a small population of behind-the-scenes staff. Was Lee Know's name on the worksheet? He wondered, heart thundering.
He inched closer. Oh, it wasn't.
"OPEN UP!" came a voice from outside. "Fuck," Chan muttered, picking up his pace in flicking through the papers. After Jisung had gone through all the documents on the desk, he had gathered one document about the mask, while the other two members had found two each. He glanced at the room they had trashed. The walls were painted a sky blue colour, contrasting the bleak dark brown furniture around it. Aside from the weird colour combination, Jisung thought the room looked pretty ni-
The door slammed open, revealing a ferocious man wearing a gold-rimmed mask decorated with dozens of tiny gems. Lee Know. Jisung immediately stuffed the piece of paper in his pocket, pulling out his gun and loading it with a click, preparing to shoot at any time. "J.one! Here!" He heard Chan's voice from somewhere above him. Running sideways to the windowsill so he could keep an eye on Lee Know, Jisung just managed to leap onto the table as a bullet whizzed past and lodged itself into the wall. It would have gone right through his body had he not jumped aside in time.
"Come on!" Changbin yelled into his ear from above him. "Jeez, shut up," Jisung muttered back, reaching up his hands and pulling himself up. He pulled out the hook-and-rope, keeping an eye on Lee Know as he let Chan and Changbin slide down. Just as he was about to fling himself over the edge, he heard a click or a gun. Loaded. "Sir-" a familiar voice said, and Jisung looked up, locking eyes with the fox-like ones of the man.
Jeongin. I.N. Jeongin shot Jisung a warning look as he held onto Lee Know's arm, preventing the mafia boss from shooting. A lump rising in his throat, Jisung slid down the rope and slung back his hook.
"Jeongin..." he tightened his fists around the rough rope, taking one more glance at the window he had just come down from. The window in the room where his fellow mafia member, his friend, was most likely being abducted after his role in the operation was revealed.
