In this chapter we will cover the basics of competitive breeding and what is by far the most difficult thing about competitive battling, the IVs. The items you will need for breeding include a destiny knot and a ever stone. The destiny knot allows the passing down of 5 IVs instead of 3. The ever stone passes down the nature of whatever pokemon is holding the ever stone. Example if I want a jolly zigzagoon and I have a male slaking with jolly I give slaking the ever stone and breed with a female zigzagoon. (they have to be in the same egg group by the way these are both in field) Now you should have a jolly zigzagoon after the eggs hatch. Now on to IVs, IVs can have a maximum total of 31 with the minimal of corse at 0. the judge in the pokemon games will tell you what the stats are. the quotes are listed below.
If your pokemons IVs are between 0-90 He will say: This pokemons potential is decent all around. If they are between 91-120 he will say: This pokemons potential is above average overall. If they are between 121-150 he says: this pokemon has relatively superior potential overall. Between 151-186 he says: This pokemon has outstanding potential overall. The last one is what you want to shot for while breeding or in any case. To judge the actual IV investment the quotes are below as well. If the highest EV is between 1-15 he says: It's rather decent in that regard. Between 16-25 he says: It's very good in that regard. Between 26-30 he says: It's fantastic in that regard. if you get 31 he says: Stats like that can't be beat. If you get the terrible luck of getting a pokemon with zero in it IVs you can tell by what the judge says. Quotes might change from game to game but they use mostly the same words so don't freak out if the judge uses different slang from xy to oras. So now that's out of the way we will talk about passing IVs down. The destiny knot passes down a random 5 IVs from both of the parents so if you want a certain IV on a pokemon try to put it on both the parents for better chances of inheriting said IV. Using the zigzagoon example above if I wanted that zigzagoon to have perfect attack, speed and HP and say the slaking has 31 in HP and attack and the zigzagoon has 31 in HP and speed give the zigzagoon the destiny knot and the slaking the ever stone after enough eggs you will have a zigzagoon with jolly nature and perfect HP, attack, and speed. A great and easiest way to get pokemon with perfect IVs is the friend safari in pokemon XY. You are guaranteed to get a pokemon with 2 perfect IVs and if you are lucky you will have a friend safari with ditto. We will continue in the next chapter.
