The next day at school went past in a complete blur, I could barely concentrate in any of my classes. I was too focused on panicking about meeting Trent later. I realized that I have never had a proper conversation with Trent before.
"Hey, guess who!" Someone said enthusiastically behind me. I could have recognized that voice in my sleep.
"Someone's in a cheery mood today," I say, rolling my eyes playfully, turning to see Jude. We joked around at my locker for a little while until I caught Trent staring at us blankly from across the hallway. Jude was laughing too much to notice though. I met Trent's eyes for a second before turning away quickly.
"I have to go, practice starts soon," Jude says sadly.
"I'm coming with," I replied, grinning. Jude's smile grew 100 times bigger, he put his arm around my shoulder, and we walked to the school field together.
As we entered, I noticed Trent and gave him a slight wave. Jude was too busy looking for Reece to notice. Trent told something to his friends and started walking over to me.
"Hey, so you came." He said, smiling cheekily. Jude noticed and looked at Trent with an annoyed face.
"Well, of course. I had to see if all the gossip was true and you were actually better than Jude." I joked. Trent laughed at my joke but Jude wasn't having any of it.
"Oh please," Jude said, rolling his eyes.
I started talking to Trent about classes and other things. Jude stayed quiet but I could feel his eyes on the back of my head.
Suddenly, we hear a sharp whistle from the coach's whistle. Practice was beginning.
"I'll catch you again after practice." Trent said, smiling softly. He ran towards the coach, where people had started to gather. Jude stayed a little while though.
"What was that all about?" Jude said, staring after Trent.
"He... um kinda came up to me yesterday outside the locker room..." I said, blushing. I tried to avoid Jude's eyes but I could feel him staring at me, with a frown.
"Hey!" Someone called cheerily from behind us. I turned around to see Reece, thank god.
"I have to go." Jude said to me with a blank look on his face. I sighed and took my seat on the bleachers as Jude and Reece ran to join the rest of the team. Why does Jude always seem so tense whenever Trent is mentioned?
The next hour and a half went by pretty eventfully. Trent waved over in my direction a few times, I smiled and waved back whenever he did. I caught Jude out of the corner of my eye frowning though.
Practice was finally over, at last another opportunity to talk to Trent. I got up but before I could walk over, Trent came running over to me, all sweaty but still cute.
"Hey, you were really good." I said smiling at him. He shrugged as if he already knew but I could see a faint rose tint in his cheeks.
"So, are you free this Saturday?" He said changing the subject.
"Yes..." I replied, knowing where this was going.
"We have a game at school then, so why don't you come to the game and then we can hang out afterwards?" He said smiling shyly.
"Of course, I would love to." I said, blushing slightly.
"We should go, y/n." Someone said next to me. I turned around to see a bored Jude. Does he really have to ruin this moment for me?? But he did have a point, it was getting quite dark.
"So, I'll see you on Saturday." I said to Trent.
"Looking forward to it." Trent said smiling before waving and walking over to Jesse, Marcus and Jadon who were all watching passionately with cheeky smiles.
"What's on Saturday?" Jude asked as we got into his car.
"Your game, dummy." I said rolling my eyes playfully.
"You're coming?" Jude asked me with wide eyes.
"Trent asked me to come and then we're going to hang out afterwards." I replied, looking down to try and hide the fact that I was blushing.
"Hm." Jude said in a slightly annoyed tone.
"Okay, what is your deal with Trent?" I asked, squinting my eyes at him.
"Nothing." Jude said defensively. "I just think you deserve someone better than someone whose such a ladies man." He said quietly in a soft tone.
I looked at him before looking at the road ahead. We didn't say anything to each other on the drive to my house. When we reached my house, I mumbled a thank you and left. Jude drove away, leaving me with a million of confusing thoughts circling my mind.
