Midoriya was done. With Todoroki. With his homework. With his ever loving shoelaces-
"Midoriya! Hey, I was wondering where you were. We were about to get Mario Kart going, and were wondering if you wanted to join?" The red-head jogged up to him, a wide grin on his face. Taking a deep breath, Midoriya finished re-tying his shoelaces before standing up.
"Hi Kirishima! I'm not sure I'm up to it, sorry. Today has been really stressful, and I'm about to burn my shoelaces in a dumpster fire." He huffed, crossing his arms.
"Well what the issue? I have extra if you need-"
"Idntknwhwtesmshlces..." Midoriya mumbled out.
"I'm sorry? I didn't quite understand-"
"I DON'T KNOW HOW TO TIE MY SHOELACES." Midoriya grew red in the face, as he embarrassedly started to speed off.
"Oh- wait! I can teach you! It's real easy, really!" Kirishima followed after him, reaching out to grab his wrist.
"It's nothing to be embarrassed about! Really! You wanna know a secret?" Midoriya paused, nodding.
"I can't swim." Midoriya looked up surprised.
"Really? Is it because of your quirk?" Kirishima rubbed the back of his neck, nodding.
"Kinda, yeah. My parents were afraid I'd sink if my quirk activated in water, so they never let me learn. I didn't actually get to start swimming or being in pools until U.A." Midoriya's head tilted before he nodded.
"Makes sense. Does your quirk actually make you heavier? So you sink in water?" They started walking towards the steps of the dorms, stopping and sitting down halfway up.
"Yeah, it makes me heavier. Not sure why, but-" Kirishima was cut off as Midoriya started mumbling, trying to catch what he was saying.
"Well, it probably means that you become more dense when you activate your quirk, so the atoms all get closer together and it must make it so that it's harder for anything to get through and create a cut or something, but that wouldn't quite make sense, because that would mean that you would get significantly smaller whenever you activate your quirk entirely, since the atoms are all getting closer together and taking up less space as a whole, and-" Midoriya stopped talking when he felt something touch his nose. He looked up, and saw Kirishima still holding his hand out, after having...booped him on the nose?
"Sorry, I couldn't get your attention. It's pretty cool you can figure that all out from just me telling you that! Anyway, would you want me to teach you how to tie your shoes?" Midoriya blushed before looking away.
"If it's not a problem, I'd like that. My mom tried to teach me, but eventually just stopped buying shoes with laces. But since there's no shoes like that in my size, I've only been able to get laced shoes." Kirishima nodded, before moving to kneel on the stair in front of Midoriya.
"Aw, man. What about your dad? Did he not know how to?" Midoriya went quiet, prompting Kirishima to look up.
"Oh, I'm sorry, you don't have to tell me, I didn't mean-"
"No, it's okay. I've gotten over it. My dad left when I was four or five, and I haven't seem him since." It was quite, before Kirishima pulled Midoriya into a hug. He froze, before wrapping his arms around the red-head.
"I'm sorry. That's rough man, but I'm proud of you for not letting it ruin everything for you. You've come so far, and it's his loss for not being able to see it." Midoriya blushed, hiding it in Kirishima's shoulder before they pulled apart.
"Thanks, but it's not a big deal. I didn't really know him, so I can't really miss him, right?" Midoriya smiled a little, shrugging.
"It's okay to miss him, even if you weren't close. How you feel is real, and it's okay." It was quiet for a moment, before they realized how close they were. There was barely inches between their faces, and they blushed and turned away quickly.
