My mom has gone mad. There's simply no other explanation for packing your bag, forcing your daughter to do the same and leaving for the airport all in one hour. And that's not even the best part. She refused to tell me where we are going until the plane leaves and now I can see why. She wanted to make sure a couldn't ditch her and leave this insane trip. And I would. Because who in the world flies to Las Vegas to get married to a guy you met exactly a month ago? I knew she went on a few dates with him but what the fuck?!!! I turn my head to look at her once more. She has that sweet little smile on her face, the one I didn't see in so long. When I was little my mom was one of the happiest persons I knew, however after dad left... everything changed including her. This smile is promising and hopeful and it is the thing that calmes me. She is an adult, she knows what she is doing and even though this will change my life, only for a year. Because I was only a year from going to college and the lack of time seemed scary.
"How exactly did you two meet?" I ask preparing for the worst.
"At a cafe. I was working as always and he just came over and invited me to dinner that day."
"And you just went. With a complete stranger."
" How else would you like to meet people? You know you should try something like this too. Get your nose out of the books and make some new friends."
" Yeah. I'm just so unsocial and so isolated. Who could live like that?"
"Well, you won't be isolated anymore. At least not for the weekend. You have plenty people to meet."
"Like whom?"
" Like Rick, his kids..."
" He has kids???"
" I haven't told you?"
" No, you have not!" What the hell??? Having a step dad was one thing, but having step siblings? No thank you.
" Their names are..."
"I don't care mom. I need to accept the fact first."I try to ignore the hurt look on her face, put on my headphones and open my book. The page I closed it at is still the same, yet everything else is suddenly different. God what is going on?
