Hello, my name is Phoenix. I live with my parents and my uncles. I am nine years old. My dad and my uncles, Elijah and Klaus, travel a lot. I wish my dad would be home more often, but he can't. I think he wants too, but he's not allowed.
My dad and my uncles are coming home tonight! I'm so excited! I haven't seen dad or my uncles in over a month. Mom walks into my room and asks, "Phoenix, will you clean your father's office? I still have to clean the rest of the house." I say, "Of course, momma."
I'm normally not allowed in my dad's office, for some unknown reason. I begin to clean, throwing away empty water bottles. It's really wierd that all of these water bottles are in here, because dad doesn't drink water. I crouch down and pick up a bottle that is nearly full. There's a red liquid in it,but I don't think it's water. I unscrew the lid and smell it.
It's human blood. I've seen them drink this before, but I never realized it was blood. I can't believe it, but my family are vampires. The blood sets me throat burning with thirst. I drink the bottle to my lips and I drink the blood. The sudden thirst disappears and I feel stronger.
I listen as male laughter fills the house. They must be back! I quickly pick up the rest of the trash and put the trashbag around back. I exclaim, "Daddy!" He picks me up and swings me around, his blue eyes twinkling. He says, "How has my little girl been?" I answer, "Good. Are you going to have to leave us again?"
Klaus says, "Not for another six months. Your stuck with us, squirt. Now where's my hug?" I grin and hug uncle Klaus. I'm so happy! Mom comes out of the kitchen and says, "Dinner's ready. " We go into the dining room and we sit down to eat. Dad says the prayer and we eat. I'm really not that hungry, but I make myself eat.
Should I tell mom and dad about drinking blood? I think I will, they need to know. My uncles are in the kitchen, doing the dishes. I ask nervously, "Mommy, daddy, can I talk to you upstairs? It's important." They both nod and they lead me to their bedroom.
Mom asks, "What did you want to talk to us about, sweetie?" It's now or never. I say, "When I was cleaning dad's room today, I found a full bottle of the red liquid and I drank it. I know it's human blood. I got really thirsty all of a sudden and the blood took that thirst away. The blood made me feel strong and powerful. I am a vampire like all of you."
